Is this really the exact same clown that said the Leafs screwed up by not offering Cujo more money than Sundin but now says "The owners got themselves into this mess because they spent money they didn't have for players who weren't worth it"? Is this the same guy that year in and year out bitches that the Leafs are more focused on turning a profit and not on winning? But now he's saying that spending within your means is actually the smart thing to do? HYPOCRISY ALERT! HYPOCRISY ALERT! HYPOCRISY ALERT!

I could spend a full day dissecting the idiocy of his column, but I really should do some work today.

The PA's offer of a 24% salary rollback will merely encourage idiots like the Rangers and Stars to overpay more players, while the low revenue teams continue to get screwed. The 24% offer is a publicity stunt, because they know the owners are not going to accept any deal that doesn't do more to curb the future growth of salaries.

No hockey this year folks. Bunch of selfish jerks, the whole lot of 'em. Confusedcratch:
Couldn't agree more!
cferneyh's right...Seems to me the teams that would benefit MOST from this rollback are the Leafs, Rangers, Wings and Avs of the world, who would instantly find themselves with additional millions (eg. $16M in the Leafs' case, minus any luxury tax costs) to throw at MORE free agents under their current budgets...

How exactly does that benefit the weak sisters of the league again? Confusedcratch:
al strachan is a moron, that is all I have to say about him....A complete ignorant moron.....I do not understand how he still has a job or people still listen to a word he says

You are dead on about him. Another thing that drives me nuts is when he is always interupting people during the hot stove. The guy cannot shut up. Always has to say something and never lets anyone have the last word.
Last season on Hotstove (I think it was last season), the time for debate came to an end and Ron MacLean butted in with "OK, that's it for time, Al, you might as well take the last word..." and sighed. You could just FEEL how much he wanted to say "...because you always take it anyway." It was hilarious, and Strachan didn't miss a beat, didn't have a clue what Ron was hinting at.
Yeah... I mean the 24% rollback in salaries SOUNDS good in theory, but many players aren't on long-term contracts... so maybe they lose a few bucks now, but they figure they'll get it back next contract next year. Ha, nice try guys.

The luxury tax might work... but I'm not sure it will work as structured. They should figure out a way to make it almost like a cap, but hopefully fool the players into thinking it's not a cap. They can have the lower taxes at lower levels, but once you get to, say, about $50 million or so, make the tax dollar for dollar. I'll bet you won't see many teams go over that tax... but the rich teams who want to make a run can if they want. The owners' counter-proposal should include something like this... if it does, then the players' reaction to it will determine if there's a season or not.

Oh yeah... I agree with everyone else here too, Strachan is an asshat!
