you also need to be careful about duty and GST when it crosses the border.

so when you bring it back over, they charge only the GST, and duty? how much is the duty charge?
I am not to sure what the exact duty is. But if you go over for more than 48 hours, you get to bring back 200.00 CDN back in duty free. So that might be a way of doing it.

if the product is made in the US, then you don't get get charged duty. the amount of duty and tax depends on the value of the item.
what is it you are looking to buy?

a weber bbq, made in the usa...its 499US, and here in canada its 869
What Weber are you looking for?
Home Depot here in Buffalo has an end of season sale with all of them $50 off.
I got my Silver B last year for $399 instead of $450. That is the one with no side burner (I do not need/want a side burner)
I actually have a list of New York State sales taxes in front of me.
It depends on what area you buy something in.
It varies across the state7.25-9.25%.
Buffalo - 8.25% soon to be 9.25%
Niagara Falls - 8.25%
Syracuse - 8.25%
Rochester - 8.25%
they just voted to raise the sales tax to 9.25 in erie county(buffalo) effective sometime early next year so i would hit up Niagara county to get what you have to get.

im going for the weber b as well...not sure if i want the 2005 model (has stainless grills) for 499, or the b for 399...i just have to figure out what the duty will be on it...it sells here in canada for 699plus 15% tax...cheapest i can find
You like your weber?? I have it narrowed down to the weber b, vermont castings vcs3000 and the napoleon ultra chef...trying to wiat until boxing day/afer xmas to see if they go onsale, but i kinda want my grill now...its been 3 long years without one!
I love my Weber B.
My buddy has a Vermont and he loves that.
So you know, the Weber models vary by store.
When I was buying mine last year for example:
At Home Depot they came with the very heavy cast-iron grates.
At Sears they came with the light weight stainless steel grates.
And another store where my father in law bought his - the models they had for sale had a "raisable" shelf on each side, where mine only has it on one side.
thanks. I found out that weber has the regular model, and the premium model. The premium has the 2 raisable shelves and stainless grills... i think. hopefully i find something i like tomorow...we can pull it out at the bills/browns game and tailgate or asses off!!
I ended up buying last years weber b for 399 at home depot. With a cover it came to 457 american after tax, which converts to 557 cad. Duty was our tax and came to 73$ (guy gave us a break at the border) for a grand total of 630 CAD.
Cheapest price here i could find was 699+ 15% tax = 804$ cad, plus 34.99 (40$) for the same cover so 845CAD total.
Saved 215 CAD...not too bad!
