i read an article in the Toronto Star last week about how the boys are planning on going back to the studio after the new year to start recording again. just wanted to know if anyone else saw the article/heard anything about it somewhere else or if it was just a media stunt pulled by some ass hole journalist who desperately wanted their writing to be read.

Yup. It's been mentioned in articles and by their management that they'll be heading back to the U.S. in the spring, and possibly an outdoor Canadian tour in the summer (Roadside revival anyone??).
When they say they're going back into the studio, they probably mean late in the year, like November/December. Realistically we won't see a new studio album until 2006.
On a related note, Gord mentioned in a couple of recent interviews that they're definitely making another record with Adam Kasper.

The boys have stated in a couple of interviews that they are working on new material as we speak. I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of even newer songs were to show up in some of the spring US tour shows.
This would be quite similar to the 96 tour, when still promoting Day for Night they included a few Henhouse songs in those shows. Heck, Giftshop was even played during some of the 95 DFN tour, and Escape during the 96 tour.
Should be a very exciting year in Hip-land.
