Hey everyone. For school this year I had to purchase a DV camera. At the school we use final cut pro for editing, which of course is on macs. I have a PC and I received Nero Ultra for my birthday. I am just wondering if it is required to have a Firewire port for the video to connect properly? I am assuming this is the case. I have a laptop, so I am not too sure what options I currently have for expanding my ports...

If anyone understands what i am talking about and has some expertise, it would be greatly appreciated. If its any incentive, I have a couple of songs videotaped from the London show. The earlier I get this figured out, the sooner you guys get to see my footage!!!!!

Thanks for any help!
The manual and cables that came with your DV camera should shed some light on this and if it came with both USB and Firewire cables, it should explain the ups & downs of using each one.

Your laptop probably already has a USB-2 port and it may be difficult & costly to add Firewire port.

As far as Nero Ultra goes, I don't think it matters. It all depends on your camera and laptop. Nero Ultra is a robust software suite; I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I will look into it further.
As Scott mentioned, it all depends on what output options came with your camera.

As well, I'm pretty sure that I've seen FireWire cards for less than $80... and the benefits of FireWire are worth the price, especially if you want to transfer the captured DV files back to you Macs at school. This can be done via FireWire and it is very fast.
