I definitely have to say London. I'm not a big fan of 700ft, but it was still a treat to hear at this point in the Hip's career. In addition to that, the back-to-back-to-back DFN tracks (Fire, DD, Scared) and then to close with Long Time and Bones? Man... and that isn't even including how incredible it was to hear the Hiccups-intro-thing. I definitely think Gord wanted to shake things up after a more conservative setlist in Toronto for the DVD.

After 30+ hip shows the London show was rejuvinating for me, definitely tops in my book. Hard to argue with the set list but being there added so much. You could just tell the boys were really enjoying themselves in a city they have long ties with.

I agree with you, who you are with, where you are sitting/standing, how you feel that day, gut feeling, opening band...there are so many things that can make a show stand out.
Example - On the evening with tour at the show in Kelowna, to make sure they could sell all the seats, the band did not have a back drop and simply played on an open stage. It made such a difference to see people around 360 degrees, and to have screaming fans as a backdrop made for a cool experience. Simple thing I know, but makes for a different feel...and that is what I look for these days.
I guess for me the downers at the dome were the opening band, the boring venue and the lack of a key song that stood out for me. If they had played any of Escape, Fever, Nautical, Josephine, Membership, 50MC I probably would have felt a little better about it, as it was the setlist only included one track I had never heard before. I need something special to happen if they are going to play Courage, 100th, Poets, NOIS, Blow and Little Bones...those songs just kill show momentum for me and they played all of them if I remember correctly!
Thanks for a great discussion on this topic, its nice to get a different feel for this show. On a side note, I am pissed they only released two shows from this tour that are both from the east...how do you feel about that?

Pretty irritating, eh? I'm not sure of the economics behind the whole Livedownload.com thing, but you'd think that if it works for the Ottawa and London shows it should work for the Calgary show.

I agree with the setting and people making all the difference in a show. I was at the Calgary show in the 9th row and unfortunately there were some drunk idiots behind me that kept knockign the chairs into the back of my wife's and I's legs, knocking us on the head with their flailing arms and just in general being assholes. I still managed to get over that and really enjoy the show but it definitly took something out of it for me.
The next night in Saskatoon I was 5th row and everyone around me was great. Totally different feeling from the show when you can get right into it without the distractions of idiots.
Both shows were great and I'd have to say that I prefered the set in Calgary, but had a better overall experience in Saskatoon.

I can't believe that you feel these songs take away form the momentum though. I'll give you that they're played a lot but in my mind that's what makes them great. 100th just flat out blew me away both in Calgary and Saskatoon. Definitly a highlight. And I was really impressed with NOIS, Bones and Blow as well. They're so tight on these songs and perform them with so much energy that it's hard not to love em'. Least that's how I see it.
As for the best setlist of the CND tour, It's hard to choose as a lot have something about them that stand out. I'd probably go with Winnipeg though for the encores alone. Calgary and London would be up there too.
