Anyone else out there use the Google Desktop Search? I've been using it for a few weeks now and I've gotta say, it kicks total ass.

Not only does it search for files or folders with the keywords you specify, but it searches the actual documents as well - and it is all done instantaneously, whereas a search using XP seems to take hours.

As an example, I just did a search for "Tragically Hip". It took .04 seconds, it says I have 831 files (with links to each one), and it says I have 697 links in my web history.

Anyway, if you've got thousands of files on your computer and you find yourself doing a lot of searches, I highly recommend giving it a try. :thumb:

Yeah I downloaded it a few days ago, very good product.

Macs have had their own version of this called "Sherlock" for years (which is probably why there isn't a Mac version). Not only does Sherlock search content, it also searches Flights, eBay, a dictionary, the internet, and the Apple Care website. It also has a built in translator.

I'm starting to think that when it comes time to replace the desktop that I may have to seriously consider a Mac.

I just figured out that you can use it to search academic, peer-reviwed articles exclusivley. That kicks ass, and allows me to meet my goal of never stepping foot in the damned campus library ever again.
