Holiday Single, New Album On Pearl Jam's Radar
While Pearl Jam continues work on its first studio album since splitting with longtime label Epic, two releases are on the horizon to tide fans over. The first is "The Molo Sessions," featuring tracks frontman Eddie Vedder recorded this fall in Seattle with the Walmer High School choir of Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The disc will be available Dec. 15 via Pearl Jam's official Web site, with proceeds benefiting the Seattle-based Molo Care, which raises funds for schools in Port Elizabeth.
Five days later, Pearl Jam's Ten Club fan organization will begin shipping its annual fan club single, which this year will feature a cover of the Jackson Five-popularized "Someday at Christmas" and a live recording of Vedder and the Walmer choir performing Pearl Jam's "Better Man" in Seattle.
As for the band's upcoming studio album, it will be released next year "on the BMG label," according to Pearl Jam's site. At deadline, it was unclear if the set will be issued on one of BMG's label imprints such as J or RCA, or via the Ten Club's in-house label and distributed by BMG. The latter partnership brought the concert release "Live at Benaroya Hall" to the marketplace this summer.
After its run of fall shows on the Vote for Change tour, the band is plotting its return to the road next year. According to Pearl Jam's site, Europe will be on the itinerary for the first time since 2000.
In other news, Vedder has contributed the solo track "Our Love Is To Remember" to the surfing film "A Broke Down Melody," which features singer/songwriter Jack Johnson is out now on DVD. The soundtrack is expected to be released in the spring by Johnson's Brushfire label.
Pearl Jam capped its Epic tenure last month with its first retrospective, "rearviewmirror: greatest hits 1991-2001." The double-disc set debuted at No. 16 on The Billboard 200.
