Anything by Human Drama! I realize you're looking to make a compilation, but it will be impossible to find any individual tracks to download beyond the two recent mp3s on their website. If, however, you truly want music that is "introspective,thought-provoking, melancholy", this band definitely fits the bill!

Unless you have a local record store that caters the most discriminating musical tastes, it may be difficult to find any of their discs but you can buy directly from Projekt Records.

For your purpose, I strongly recommend "The World Inside", although their live album, "14,384 Days Later" is one of the best live albums ever recorded.

I also don't want to be "that guy" but, I saw DMB Aug 2001 and they did an amazing version of Long Black Veil...full band. His back-up singers, "The Lovely Ladies" made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end when they sang on this song. Plus I have numerous boots with the band doing that song.
