According to the poll, Gus is far and away the fan fave on IBE. I wonder if that has to do with the Grey Cup gig?
Interesting to see how evenly distributed the votes are in general...one sign of a rock-solid album. :thumb:
and you didn't post this in that thread, why?
Man some of you guys out there have to quit being such dicks!!!
I'd like to go through each thread on the last 4 pages or so and see how many times someone here has been chastized for commiting the heinous error of starting a new thread. I understand it's protocol to search previous threads but come on...it's not like we're gonna run out of space here. So chillax!!!
Goulet!!!

Amen to that. Its not like there is that much activity on this board. I don't understand why you would want to discourage someone from posting. How about the people that post absolutely nothing? Gotta love it when a thread has 500 views and 20 replys.
Anyway..I was a little surprised that Gus is by far the popular choice. It had a good response when the album was released but I definitely think the fact it was played heavily throughout the tour made it more popular. Same with Nashville. They are both great live songs.
Well, thanks you two...the bizarre thing is, I thought I was starting a NEW thread, one relating to that new poll that was put up about 'Favourite Song off IBE.' But I guess some folks 'round these parts have a short tolerance for RELATED threads (i.e., threads directly or indirectly about Gus).
I find it particularly irritating since I've been a regular contributor on this thing and have consistently tried not to be a pain in the ass. So I agree that people should indeed lighten up, but what do I know?

There wasn't a thread. He's referring to the poll on the hipbase
home page!
Anyways, IIRC, the last time someone made a poll and asked what people's fav tune off of IBE was, 'Gus' finished tied for 3rd. So, it's pretty interesting how it's become people's #1 choice.
I had faith in Gus' popularity since BEFORE Day 1...
Ever since the "new" layout of thehip.com had it spinnin as a loop.

I don't want to guess Mark's intended meaning, but when I read his post, I thought he was referring to the IBE poll / thread of the ten "What's the best song off each album" polls / threads that were started all at the same time.

Again, I don't want to speak for everyone else, but besides the potential bandwidth issue, starting new threads relative to current or recent topics makes it difficult to keep track of information that one might want to review or reference at a later date. I see it as a common sense courtesy to the members of the forum.
A search for "Gus" currently yields 178 results. If you manually sort through the 8 pages of results (no method of searching title only) you find 9 titles containing "Gus". Each discussion had multiple threads with "Gus" in the title.
In order for someone to find the
one Gus-comment they're looking for, they have to sift through 9 threads.
I understand and agree that a strictly structured forum can be a drag, but it's evident that the number of self-deputized "thread police" posts has greatly diminished since the mods asked everyone to let
them do their job, so it's getting better.
I also understand why sometimes people might get frustrated.

That's not the reason at all. Ever since Chris and I made lieutenant, and so we've got tenure and guaranteed pensions, we've become fat and lazy and spend most of our time sleeping in our marked cars behind billboards and parked in the handicapped spots down at the Tim's. Well, fatter and lazier, at least.

Regardless of what mark meant, the point is that Killer Whale Tank made a thread relating to (and I repeat) the poll on the
home page. He prob should have mentioned exactly what poll he was referring to, but as far as I know there doesn't exist a poll on this forum that shows 'Gus' as being the #1 choice off of IBE.

i dunno if it's directly related to the grey cup performance or not but it's certainly easy to say that the performance of gus, at the grey cup, was one of the best tv moments i've seen all year. especially pairing that song with courage.
as far as the poll goes i voted for heart of the melt. but my opinion of the best song changes weekly. i totally see your point about the votes being evenly distributed and absolutely agree that it's the sign of a solid cd. when i voted i was surprised josephine got lots of votes...it's my least favourite off the new cd...but again, compared to other music,,in general, josephine still is a great song

ahahha..this board is a joke...
Idea:
Create a Tragically Hip forum for ultimate fans to wisely discuss Hip related issues.
Reality:
Real Hip fans don't own computers cause they are all drunk in a ditch somewhere...what you get is weird hip elitist hip fans that say this about shows -
1. That show sucked, the crowd had no energy
2. That show sucked, the crowd had to much energy
3. That show sucked the hip played to many energy killers
4. That show sucked the hip played all hits
not to mention that apparently there is a crazy set of guidelines to posting on this site....apparently you need to go 5 pages back to make sure no one has already started the "gee I like the Hip" thread...
Its good to see we got a few more hipbase rebels now..i was beginning to feel alone, maybe one day I will win the "Is tiger the lion a flat out shit ass song?" poll...
On a way more related note. Gus is the best song out of the past three albums..and thats tough for me to say cause i love freak turbulence...
swim baby, swim...
