Yep, thanks for giving me a chance to completely agree with that. As I said, it's not the network I'm a fan of, it was just the perspective I was commenting on.

Distortion? Welcome to American (and largely Canadian) media... those colour systems warning of terror??? Thats not distortion? This week Global news was on this big "what could terrorists attack in Toronto" story... Confusedcratch: The constant misuse of file footage and images to construct blacks as criminals and arabs as terrorists... not to mention the newspapers & broadcasters who use Wire Services (AP, Reuters etc) and change the words "insurgents" and call them "terrorists"... now, if that isnt propaganda what is?

VioletlightHeron Wrote:American and Canadian news generally doesnt broadcast pictures of Iraqi dead who were killed in combat and exult about their death or air propaganda pieces promising death and destruction for infidels, etc.

during Vietnam... the American networks ideologically used dead bodies in a way that devalued the Vietnamese bodies and tended to manufacture consent for the US war effort. Then, when representing Kosovo & Serbia bombings, networks refrained to significantly represent the Kosovar, Albanian or Serb. Just a little framing and hegemony at work, I suppose.

VioletlightHeron Wrote:Western journalism isnt perfect but there is a broad range of publicly aired viewpoints across the political spectrum. The voices of moderation and compromise are forced underground in the Arab media, especially when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Western journalism (in its largest form, networks) cannot possibly air a range of viewpoints when theer are mainly 8 or 9 corporations who own the networks... therefore, less views are being represented.
The media are all about homogenaity and corporate interests
