Agreed , and what's with them playing Britney (i'm strong enough) as they are announcing the Lions names, they then follow that will a couple Rammstein tunes. This is a Canadian game, play anything Canadian, instead we get an American pop princess (vomit) and German metal. Who makes these decisions ? Go Hip !!

Wow! thats nice to see Im not the only one who realized that. I was wondering what people were thinking playing Britney Spears durning the player intro's. I also agree with the national anthem, definately a little rough.

why does everything have to be so nationalized in canada. Great you are from canada, it doesnt mean that every song they play during a football game has to be from a canadian artist. Im pretty sure that if they played some German metal over some avril you wouldnt forget that you were canadian. I always wondered about that .

there's no stars and stripes on our McDonalds logo bro but apparently if you dont put a maple leaf on everything you forget what country you are in. Im being serious....why is it like a slap in the face if they dont play all canadian music.

McDonalds, Wal Mart and all those other manipulative, duplicitous corporate whores offend me by adding the word "Canada" or the red maple leaf to their logo. We all know who they are. I do not believe the adding of a Canadian reference in the most American of brand names makes ANYONE more likely to shop there or less likely to avoid it.

You stop planting your flag in foreign soil like a big unwelcome prick in the wrong man's wife, and we'll take back a bit of OUR nationalism.

Atleast we have a country we can be proud of.

PS: Americans DO surround themselves with their flag. The stars and stripes is on EVERYTHING these days because the US has always been fanatically patriotic, but these days because of Bush's "you're either with us or the terrorists" speeches, everyone's afraid their patriotism will be questioned if they don't package everything with a "proud to be American" icon.

Sorry Neil, but I think you are suffering from what i call national pyschic penis envy. If your thesis of Americans and American companies being afraid to show dissent and duct tape their mouths to show their patriotic pride then we wouldnt have seen Bruce Springsteen, et all hold a series of concerts to get out their anti-Bush message, companies like W.R Grace, Novell raise money for John Kerry or 48 percent of the American electorate vote for the other guy. The Stars and Stripes is visible everywhere for the same reason you can see the Maple Leaf everywhere in Canada, as a proud symbol of national heritage and for the companies, a cheap marketing ploy.. aka Buy American or Buy Canadian.

To be honest, I'm not sure what exactly you were getting at. I hope I am understanding you when I say I wasn't implying American companies are afraid to somehow take sides in the political spectrum...they own the government, so it's to their advantage to put their best foot forward and get the side they feel they can best take advantage of into the White House.

All I was doing was responding to mike's accusation that we are somehow obsessed with our nation's identity. If ever I have seen a nation exemplifying boisterous patriotism and criticism of many things non-indigenous, it is surely the US. You guys walk around with a hand on your heart and a flagpole stuck up your collective ass. It's like you need to constantly reassure yourselves that you and everyone around you are not wavering from your show of unity, as though not marching in lockstep could precipitate The End of the World as We Know It.

Obviously I'm taking this partly in jest, but how can you not. It's late, it's 3 AM, I've been sitting at this desk for nine hours, I needed to indulge sardonic, scornfully mocking nature. :lol:

Actually I didn't mean it as a patriotic issue, it wasn't meant as a Canada VS US. I'm not impartial to new music, i'm just sick of crap, we eat our own in this Country instead of giving them a hand up. We have Can Con regulations here and at 5 in the morning you'll hear the Canadian artists just so they can save prime time for the some old tired overplayed shit, like Van Halen, AC DC etc..They have a chance at the Grey Cup to play a Canadian Artist, IE the Hip, The Watchmen, Big Sugar etc.. Who have a much tougher chance at making it big compared to an American artist, instead we hear the most corpratized lip syncing crap there is on the planet, Britney make me vomit Spears. As far as flags being everywhere nothing beats the states in that respect, I don't mean that as were better than you because of that, that's just a fact. Whatever country you come from, you bet you bet your ass Corps are gonna take advantage of that, but as Canadians we have to fight for our identity, we have been swallowed up by US capitalism to a large degree. Nothing makes me sicker than seeing something like a Nike commercial telling me what hockey means to me or my country, it's insulting. So when I watch something like the Grey Cup , and hear that shit blasted out it pisses me off. You know what i wouldn't have said a word if it was a Pearl Jam, or REM or any respectable band, but Britney ? Rammstein doesn't even bother me, it just makes me think why we don't help our own, in a place that's hard to make it. Econoline Crush's Wicked has just as good metal riffs as any Rammstein tune. We need to expose our own, because you need to catch a shooting star, or be the most mainstream crap to make it south of the border. You still have a few decent artists who break it , but 90% do not.. I.E. Nickelback making it , the Hip not..Yet helping our own is frowned on.
