Here's this week's top story in the Hamilton Mountain News...
"Seven-year-old Brandon Dodd hopes all Hamilton youngsters will be able to dress warmly like he does with some help from the Keep The Kids warm campaign that is being run through Kids Klub."

Emilie Pires, three years old, was dressed as Tinkerbell for a Halloween party at Peter Pan Co-op Preschool last week.

Is it just me or does that tinkerbell picture look like they scanned the fron page of their own paper and posted it on their site? Classy.

A seven year old, donating at least a bit of his time, if nothing else, to help keep less fortunate kids warm this winter. Yeah, what a laugh! It's not a national source for news you know. It's a community paper, and unless things have changed, it's not even the major community newspaper, because there's also the Spectator. Sure, most of the stories may be tripe, and the journalism is probably mostly third-rate, but I don't see anything wrong with a small paper trying to get people to help out a good cause like the Keep The Kids Warm campaign. I doubt that it's any "worse" than any other community rag in this country.
Plus, where else will you turn when your kitten is lost, and you'd like to offer up a reward for it's safe return?

You couldn't do much worse than our Daily News, which is theoretically an ACTUAL newspaper...they love insane end-of-the-world headlines for mundane stories. I recently read a story with a giant bold "Explosive Council Debate Dissolves Into Chaos", which you might think means someone dropped a vial of anthrax on the marble floor during a debate over whether there is a God or not.
But noooo...turns out it was two activists with a sign running ahead of the Mayor and sitting in his chair while he tried to pull them out. And the explosive debate? Forcing slum landlords to fix up their properties in line with the fire code.
Now, I'm not saying that issue isn't important, but "Explosive" and "Chaos" have no place in that headline.

Santa visited the Concession Street Kids Club last week for a special turkey dinner, complete with all the trimmings, right down to the crackers. Here, eight-year-old Katy McDonald and Santa took a crack at the wish bone following dinner.

That makes 60 inches...
...of hair that is. These students at Hillfield Strathallan College on the Mountain are prepared to cut off their long hair to donate to Locks of Love, (from left): Clare Barker, Sarah Mathews, Heather Cary, Stephanie Ford and Rachel Nolan. The move is aimed at promoting their Youth In Action conference, which takes place on April 29-30 at the school. See story on Page 13.

Just curious... does this paper ever have real headlines on their front page (real meaning actual serious national or international events)?

No. The hair girls ARE the headline on the front page. All of these pictures are the front page stories.

If it helps, my local paper isn't that brilliant either.
Live in a fairly big city, yet they still found it majorly important to tell us that a woman was attacked by a giant blue M&M on New Years Day.
