opinion noted..but would you agree it's a better song than satisfaction?
I would say Stairway has been ruined by being overplayed. But I think it's a better song than Satisfaction.

I am another person who thinks that Stairway is overplayed. Its a great song, but for the amount it is heard versus so many other solid songs Zep has done. Its to bad the others dont get played more.

Oh lord yes. Stairway is actually a work of ART, not a virtually substanceless catchy song that gets less original every time you hear it. Even though I don't like listening to Stairway anymore, I respect the song for what it is!
By the way, where the heck is this list? I am on RS.com right now and I don't see hide nor hair of it.

I agree with you both - Zep's catalogue contains many masterpieces, and
STH is but one of them - it has been notoriously overplayed.
But make no mistake - it
is a masterpiece, & I still love it for it's unique arrangement. And Page's lead (immediately before
"And as we wind on down the road.....") is one of the very best ever. (I think Gilmour's leads in
Comfortably Numb are up there with it...)
i'll tell you where i learned to love stairway once again..get the bootleg dvd of almost famous..there's a scene that was filmed for the movie, but never used...the kid's using the song to show to his mum that rock n roll has so much to offer, and that he should go on the road with a band...so the entire scene is those 2, his brother(i think) and teacher listening to the song..watching their faces as they listen is powerful...showing what a true masterpiece the song actually is....(if you want the music along with the scene you have to play your own cd..cameron crowe couldnt' get the rights!!)
For the record, "Stairway..." was 31st.
Give me "Ten Years Gone".
I awoke to Stairway on the radio this morning and thought of this thread. I love Zeppelin, they're easily my favourite band. Stairway was one of the first songs that got me hooked so many years ago and I still love it today. I'd agree that it's overplayed which is unfortunate cause they have so many other great tunes. But I never get tired of hearing it.
If I had to choose the Zeppelin song I felt was their best I would probably have to go with Over the Hills and Far away, or Achilles' Last Stand. But my absolute favorite would be Going to California. :thumb:

Great cut. I'll take
The Lemon Song...or wait - make that
No Quarter...or how about
Since I've Been Loving You? No,
That's the Way!
When the Levee Breaks?!?! Aaaarrrghh! Too many freaking masterpieces!!

As a mere lad, I wore my fingers to the nub learning to play
Over the Hills on the acoustic. Best intro ever.
I could never commit to a 'favorite'. 25 different songs could be #1 on any given day. Out of their entire catalogue, there's only
one I'm not-so-fond of -
Candy Store Rock

So essentially, who cares what they say.
What's your point? NOIS is a tremendous song. The fact that it's overplayed doesn't diminish the fact that it is a truly great song.
I know there are some people in here who would say "Get Back Again" is a better song.

cratch: It reminds me of the lovers of indie music and movies. The ones who will try to convince people that an indie band is great and all successful bands are crap. The same with movies. I'm of the opinion that there is just as much crap in the indie scene as there is on the mainstream. Crap is crap and good is good! Don't hate just because NOIS is probably the band's most popular song. It's popular AND great!

Funny, I don't think anybody actually said anything like that here....
Nobody has said that songs are bad because they're popular. They've been saying that the fact they're popular doesn't make them the best.

And I'm saying that NOIS is GREAT!!!! I know that there are some people who would love NOIS and say it is the greatest song if it hadn't been so popular. If NOIS was some unreleased track, people would be raving about how it is one of music's great masterpieces!
