This is my first ever "New Topic", so I hope I'm submitting properly, and I hope there are a few members out there with good memories. The Hip are playing Saskatoon this Saturday, and I am a little disappointed there is not a Regina stop, but at least they are not passing us by totally. There is a bit of a checkered history with concerts in Saskatchewan, and I missed a few of the early shows, but thought it would be neat to list the appearances (and non-appearances) and see what anyone else could add. Thanks to the list on this site, I've got quite a few accurate dates already:
2002 - Sept. 29 and 30 - Regina, Centre of the Arts
2000 - Nov. 27 - Saskatchewan Place (skipped Regina)
1999 - March 2 - Regina Agridome
1999 - Feb. 27 - Sask Place
1997 - July 21 - Saskplace (ARA)
1996 - Nov. 18 - Saskplace (skipped Regina)
1995 - July 17 - Craven (ARA)
<1995> - February - skipped the province entirely going from Winnipeg on to 4 shows in Alberta...that really hurt!
<1993> - July - skipped the province on the first Roadside Attraction, although the Heksenketel Video shows them commenting on our mustard fields as they drive through the province...if it was so cool, why didn't they stop!!!
<1992> - November - did they play in Saskatoon at the end of the month? There are some question marks on Hipbase's concert list (1992-11-25? and 1192-11-28?). Anyone remember anything? I am positive they did not play Regina...again!

1991 - July 29 - Doris Knight Hall. It is not in the concert list on this site but is mentioned in one of the threads. I did not attend, and man do I feel stupid! I was just becoming a fan at that time, but guess I was out of the loop. Ahh, to be able to turn back time...
1991 - July 27 - Bessborough Hotel (outside). If only I had known!!!

I know they played Channel One in Regina a couple of times as well as the Heritage in Moose Jaw...but I was out of the loop...
They played Saskplace Oct. 31,1991. It was a halloween cabaret and my first Hip show.
They also played the Centennial in Saskatoon in 92 or 93 for the Fully Completely tour, although I didn't make it to that show.
Check this out, it's a history of Louie's Pub on the U of S campus, and the Hip played there a bunch of times in the late 80's. I suspect they would have played The Owl in Regina around the same time.

Lance, you can also add Sept (exact date unknown) 1991, London, Ontario. I don't know the venue either (sorry, it was frosh week at Western). I remember BNL opening......and that's about it. :oops:

According to a BNL fan site[1], the Barenaked Ladies played in London at the University of Western Ontario on 09/05/91.

The basic requirements I have for adding a show are Venue, City and Year.

Billy - thanks for the info on Louis' Pub...I was there a couple of times way back when, but never for The Hip. A friend of mine actually worked there between '86 and '88. They definitely had a lot of bands go through there.
I'm guessing The Hip played the Owl too, although it was a pretty small place back then. They did play Channel One (currently The State) a time or two in the late 80's for sure.

It wasn't called Channel One back then, it was called The Venue...just to clarify.
I lived in Regina for a year in 1990 and 91 and went to Channel One a lot...great place. That is where I saw so many great up and coming bands, and learned to appreciate import beer.

- I definitley spent time at The Venue and Channel One...can't remember when the name changed, but it must have been '92 or'93. I did see The Pursuit of Happiness at The Venue around 1988, it was a small, sweaty place to watch a band then and now...I saw Big Sugar and The Trews at The State (current name) last November...awesome show!
And to get real trivial, before this bar was called The State, Channel One or The Venue, it was known as The Schnitzel Haus...that's before my time though!

It became Channel One in early 1990 or possibly late 1989 if I'm not mistaken. It was already Channel One in August 1990 when I moved there.
Regina had a great bar scene back then. Although the fact that I had just turned legal age could be clouding my notion of what a good bar scene actually is. That being said, I loved going to Channel One, The Owl, 7's, Delbert's, PJ Melon's, even O.C.C.'s.
Regina's bar scene was decent through the mid-90's as well...Delbert's, Lauderdales (OCC), Manhattan's, even the Long Branch. It's been in a rut lately, or maybe I'm just getting old!
I would think when you left Regina for Calgary, you found a little more of a scene!!! What did you do during your brief stay in Regina?

I'm a SK boy. I went to U of R for one year, then left and moved to Saskatoon where I lived for 8 years. I moved to Calgary in 2000 to go to SAIT and I've stayed ever since.
