I moved 3 times in High School.. I made a few good friend, but I played alot of sports and hung out with anyone.

Like alot of people here, hated high school, hated grade school, hate hate hate. Went to 4 grade schools and 2 high schools. Failed at least a course a year from grade 8 throught 11, I think the only 12 course I got was P.E... Severely antisocial and completely uncomforatble in my skin, never did homework,skipped, played pool, road hockey and drank the last couple years. For sports.. Hockey, lacrosse and rugby. Glad those days are gone, although the road hockey was the highlight, won the stanley cup many times with the glow of the orange ball twinkling the twine. Never fit in in any clique, but made a few good friends in the last couple years.

never really fit any clique. 'sides, i dont like to generalize...more about an individual. i was punk...i guess....little bit of geek...liked sports....some popular kids liked me....i have a diverse musical taste..so i could talk pantera with the headbangers...

Lets just say Spiccoli is my hero...haha, kidding...I guess I would say the mis-understood eccentric type that just liked to draw, read, write, and passionately listen to music...

I have fond memories of my years in highschool although both of my parents worked at my school so the potential for trauma was definitely there. I wasn't really part of any clique although I got along with most people. I wasn't a straight A student but my grades were decent. I wasn't the teachers pet but I enjoyed helping out and I was into extracurricular activities (drama and MUN especially). Nothing spectacular really but I had a good time and made a lot of good friends in the process.

I was the paradox (or I like to think I was) in my final years of high school. I started grade 9 (in 96) and thought it was cool to be in high school but it was severely boring and I hated it. I hung out with skaters but I didn't skate. I was somewhere between a skater/greaser/stoner/geek. Grade 10 came around (97-98) and I was spending entirely too much time with the "bad crowd". I skipped the entire second semester of grade ten and didn't even get caught doing it! lol. I rapped all day long down by the river and drank my liver away. Grade 11 they threw me into this "Alternative School"... I smoked weed all day long and finished grade 10, 11 and 12 math all in half a year. Moved to another location and left all my friends behind. Starting grade 12 (99-00) and not knowing anybody seriously screwed me up. Starting in grade 10, I used to have incredible stomach aches in the morning, and these just got worse in grade 12. Nova Scotia doesn't count grade 9 as high school so I had to take grade 10 courses which were the exact same of what I did in grade 9 in Ontario. That sucked. So I kicked it. I sat in my basement for a whole year and read everything I could get my hands on. Grew some of the most fabulous marijuana bushes ever. The next year (00-01), I kicked ass. Within like 3 days of starting school I was down with everybody. The teachers loved me and I chatted with them in the halls and then turned around and skipped their class to smoke weed. They didn't care. I would be absent for a week and then walk into class, do a test and get the highest mark on it. So, I mean, even though it was a bumpy road with alot of traffic-jammin, I wouldn't've wanted it to go any other way. I went for one more year (01-02) and supposedly graduated and spent a year (02-03) partying cuz I thought school was over. Then I got a phonecall saying I still needed one credit to graduate that I hadn't gotten yet. I moved again (in 03), yes, spent 4 yrs or something doing grade 12. lol. Still needed one credit. Moved here to Ontario, now I needed 3 credits. So I enlisted in the school here (03-04) and got kicked out for poor attendence. F**k it. I don't want to go back. Not at my age, dude, that sucks.

I wish we could have hybrids of those options. I was a definite geek. I always got good grades, but I always had a lot of friends too. I did the whole president of student council thing, which was an amalgam of geeks and popular kids. I was voted valedictorian too, so maybe that puts me in the popular category too, I don't know. I was also a band geek too, played drums in the school band. High school was pretty cool I guess.

Just wanted to get out of there, and quick! Most of my group felt the same way. And in fact, my group was never really a "group"... some friends wouldn't be caught dead with others. A diverse and dispersed crowd...

Although, we ALL loved skipping school and doing the only three things there were to do in Georgetown: Four, Oh, and One. "let's go downtown" was the way most of my high school days ended... at 12:30pm.

Wow, substitute Georgetown for Oakville, and 401 for QEW, and I could be mistaken for Stephen Dame. What an honour!

Down here we have Valedictorian and Salutatorian - which were the highest and 2nd highest grade point averages for the four years. No voting invloved.

Canada is a wacky place. Salutatorian does not exist here and valedictorian is not the student with the highest average. It's a student elected by the graduating class to represent them at the ceremony by giving a speech. Often the student has high grades, as I did, but it's rarely the highest. Combine that with a five year high school system in Ontario (that's now been reduced to four) and we're really weird. Hope that cleared up any confusion.

I guess I was kind of a lone wolf, although I didn't really have anything against anyone else and no one had a beef with me (or had a reason to).... so maybe I could be a "hung out with everyone"... however I didn't really do much hanging out. I just went to class, kept quiet, did my homework, did good on tests and whatever... so maybe that makes me a geek.. but I wasn't on any committees or teams or any other crap like that... had I not gone to class they probably wouldn't even have a record of me being there at all, it's kinda funny how UN-involved I was... I guess I just had better things to do like start my business and prep for university.

I think my favourite period was spare in OAC, sat down in the library with a new Stephen King book every week for a semester... actually I polished off SK's whole collection during that year and been reading his stuff as it comes out since then.

Anyway, the teachers at my high school were pretty cool, but the principal & VP were complete asshats... they kept hte school at a cool -18 degrees during the winter and gave out detentions for wearing a 'non-uniform' sweater - even if it had no writing or whatever on it. Like I said, I kept off of everyone's radar and kept myself on the honour roll and the VP still had the nerve to bust my balls about things like that... I was ready to lay the fucker out one day... (sorry for ranting)

Aside from that, I'm in 4th year university and there are 2 or 3 teachers I still go visit once and a while because they were just so encouraging and honest that I wouldn't be where I am without them.

4 years later if I see one of my old classmates at a bar or at the university I say Hi and chat for a quick bit, there are still a handful of them that I'll have lunch with and that's cool. Other than that I made my best friends at my first job (and they introduced me to the Hip), and to this day we are still close and hang out often -- and that is one thing I am very thankful for.

Wow. I tried to do hybrids of the choices but I was afraid I was getting too fussy.

I alot like all of you which was my theory. I played basketball. I played every game but our championship game, which I played like the last 5 mins of.

I did Model UN, library club, prom court (it was a merit court), SADD, Yearbook (both layout and photographer), class VP in freshman year,. can't think of much more.

I kinda hung with everyone but I chose geek. I was never really accepted by the popular crowd or any of the sterotypes.

I don't know that Canada is wacky when it comes to high school crap; I think the Americans make a massive overwhelming bloated affair out of it. I am not JUDGING the character of Americans here, so don't nobody get mad at me...but I had a girlfriend in Oregon one time and when I walked into her high school I was shocked by just how much like Boston Public it looked (yes, I watched it. I identified with the teachers who had high ambitions but ended up lonely and unappreciated).

There were streamers, banners, posters, sports memorabilia EVERYwhere. There were massive racks of photos on the walls, giant proclamations and plaques everywhere, lists of names adorning every space between the intramural activity advertisements. Americans have made high school its own little world. Which I suppose is great for social people, but I would have hated it. Graduation ceremonies are a little overdone in the States too, as though people think it's an actual honour or a real accomplishment - even a sort of rite of passage. Too much "pomp and circumstance" for me.

Even the voting of positions in my girlfriend's high school was overblown. There were a million things to vote for people for, and at the end of the year more than a dozen honours went to people by voting. Our few notables were by proxy, the highest average (not GPA...who needs GPA? I didn't even know what it was in high school) became the valedictorian. It was a pretty straightforward affair in every respect.

I don't know about you guys, but for me high school was like work, not work-play-life all rolled into one. The US high schools I have visited, especially while in session, just seemed a little complicated for me.
