AHL and NHL are closer in talent than the CFL and NFL are. AHL guys do come on the NHL rosters during the season and play. CFL players dont respectable numbers do the same. What is more, guys on the practice roster of NFL teams are better than CFL stars. CFL is at least 2-3 levels below NFL caliber.

NFL Europe teams are closer to the talent (even though one could argue they are better) than a CFL team.
Im a big NFL fan, but I have to say the Super Bowl usually is a big let down, the skill is there but after all the hype its not what you'd expect. There have been a couple the last few years that were ok. The Grey Cup on the other hand is usually a fun game, I like when its snowing and its a close game, it doesnt get any better, very Canadian! :thumb:

I can't quite agree with that... I think the comparison between CFL and NFL talent is similar to that between AHL and NHL. A lot of CFL players played in the NFL, or would have if team politics didn't hold them back. CFL has very good talent... that and the unique Canadian rules would help the CFL teams compete.

Having said that, if the Grey Cup and Super Bowl winners played 10 times, I'd expect the Super Bowl winners to win 7 times.
I like the CFL and all but I think the rules are pathetic. It's barely one step ahead of the old XFL rules. When I watch a CFL game, sometimes I wonder if I am watching a football game or a circus. For instance, in that Calgary/BC game apparently Calgary should have won. The receiver caught a pass and then booted the ball and another Stamp's player picked it up and went into the endzone. It was a fair play apparently because the guy who got the ball near the endzone from the kick was behind the receiver when he kicked it. I don't know about you but this reeks of grade 6 football in the old soccer field where you just throw the ball and if it is imcomplete the fat kid just picks it up and runs with it. The CFL rules are too foolish. I'm not talking about the 3 down rule but the other rules like getting a point for missing a field goal! haha

I do think that some of the top stars in the CFL are better than practice squad NFL'ers. The problem is that there aren't too many true stars in the CFL who would shine in the NFL. Printers is still young and I'm sure he'll get interest but look at Dickenson. He was the best player in the CFL and went to the NFL to hold a clipboard. Garcia succeeded and Flutie did for about 8 games.

What I find funny about the Argos is they have Rison, who was a star in the NFL, and they scratch him for a playoff game. It goes to show you how much Rison has fallen.

HA! That's being overly generous. I'd expect the Super Bowl winner to win all 10 times by an average margin of 42 points, regardless of what rules they used or where they played. Anyone who doesn't think the talent of the NFL is eons ahead of the CFL is fooling themselves. Yeah, the odd CFLer makes it in the NFL, but one or two players out of 1400 hardly makes a strong case that CFL talent is anywhere close to NFL talent.

The only way the Grey Cup winner would win three of ten is if the NFLers let their cheerleaders play all ten games.

OK, OK, 7 might be a little generous, but no way would it be the outright blowout you predict. In many cases the players in the CFL are talented enough to play in the NFL, but don't get a real chance because they don't fit the stereotype of what coaches expect, or they have to compete with some over-hyped draft pick/free agent who was signed to an $80 gajillion dollar contract.
many of the CFL rules are based of rugby, so that is why the play in the Calgary/BC happened.
nothing like the NFL, fair catch rule, thats queer, "Should be called the please dont hit me rule."

Plus in the NFL, if you are wiining and its 2mins left, the game is over with their 40 second play clocks, take the knee a few times, and walk off the field with 35 seconds to go.

CFL with 2 mins to go, lots can happen, not to mention, you must finish out the quarter
i love the nfl and cfl, but i agree with the above comment as to the final 2 minutes of a game...i absolutly loathe the fact that a team can just kill off that final time the way they do...that game a few weeks ago with the riders vs. b.c. when the riders were down 18 with about 3 minutes left ....came back to go up by 4 ...and then b.c. scores a t.d. on the last play to win it!... nfl doesn`t even come close to that kind of excitement

Well, there are bigger and faster players in the NFL and bigger hits so I don't find anything wrong with protecting a helpless punt returner. They way they protect the QB is another issue altogether. They call the defensive players a bit too much for roughing the passer.

Anyway, I agree about the time issue. The play clock shouldn't be as long. The play clock could be turned to 30 to force more plays to be run and speed up dummies like Bledsoe and Fiedler and Brunell, etc to call a play faster. The amount of timeouts I see from QB's that can't get the play called in time is astonishing.
what takes them so long to call a play, do they really need 40 seconds to call one

Amen to that brother!

I also can't figure out why it takes them so long to call in plays in the NFL... it's not rocket science guys!

Ever taken a look at an NFL playbook? It ain't rocket science, but it ain't ABC's and 123's either.
