A top ten song for me (as indicated in a previous thread) and an awesome video...I wish he'd finish it too. Does anyone know the guy who did it? I hope it's included in their box set (When it's released)
I know him,Jeff, but only from The Henhouse.
He is always over there - and that is a pretty cool video.
Does anybody else not see the young woman in that picture? been looking at it for a good five minutes and I can't see anything but the old hag. And no, before someone suggests it, that has nothing to do with anything Freudian Tongue

The old hag's nose is the young woman's jaw and she's turned away... :thumb:
hey, someone at henhouse, just told me about this thread....

i talked to gord d about ultramundane... he did a "oh yeah!" sort of recalling when i mentioned it. we both nodded and agreed it was a cool song. this, after discussing fighter fighter and that IT was a leftover song. then i joked, "that was so, "then". and now here we are..." and he said "exactly". so i guess that means dont plan on ever hearing it live.

as for the flash video... at that point, i had lots of free time at my job to experiement and play. I got to that point (where it ends halfway) and came up for air and never got a chance to finish it. They are taxing mentally and timewise to get through. I still like what i did even if it was incomplete. I also did one for RUSH, which geddy and gang loved and asked if they could put on their website... of course i agreed, but had to quickly wrap that one up too. That was my first flash movie, and was purely experiemental..

I started one for "GUS" but thats nowhere near ready to show people... a "pet' project i guess.

so, thanks.
Can you link the rush one? I love the old "wait" image on their site...geddy jamming on his base.

Don't worry Neil, I only see the old woman also...even with Brazle's tips
Keep looking and all of a sudden it will come to you.. Smile

More tips: the hag's eye is the woman's ear and the hag's mouth seems to be a necklace or something.
The old woman's nose is the chin
The old woman's eye is the ear
The young woman is looking towards the feather, but you can't really see her face or any features, but you can tell she is hot!
I feel dumb, i could always see the hot woman, just now i finally could see the old hag, couldnt find her for the life of me
the rush flash is on www.rush.com under band, nocturne
AHAAA!! I see both now :jump Thanks for all of the tips :jump
Well a few months later I'm going to bring this topic back, for fear that posting a new thread would make chris cream himself, and we wouldn't want his dry cleaner to deal with that.

At any rate, the video is really cool, but I'm rather interested in the personal, or not so personal interpretations of all of you. Nevermind the beautiful explanation that was given to us earlier in the thread.

Personally, theres the blatant metaphor of the ocean being new ways to conduct business and to think; building an ocean IS a new tradition.

That said, i've always considered this the hallmark for trudeauist thought. Let one's ideals and traditions evolve with the times, and hold on to the basic message of those traditions, while applying it to modern day. This song is very much a masterpeice, and again, BEYOND ME why "are you ready" and "throwing off glass" made it on to IVL but not this.

Anyhoo, any other interpretations?

Hear, hear! Although for me it would be instead of Are You Ready or Beautiful Thing...TOG is an OK song by my reckoning. Nothing revelatory, but leagues better than Beautiful Thing and AYR in my ever so humble opinion.
skippy the wonder dog Wrote:but what the heck does that mean? i wondered about that for a long time, but then this hit me out of the blue: the optical illusion in which the face of an old hag resolves into the profile of a glamorous young woman who is looking over her shoulder. (see below) this relates well to the lyric as a whole.

Skippy, I kid you not - from the very first time I heard Ultra Mundane and heard that line, I too thought of that very optical illusion. Freeeeeaky. :thumb:
