i'm not the biggest green day fan, but the new cd is absolutely brilliant...it's getting comparisons to the who, and at first i thought "what th'???"..but...it's a modern day rock opera,and quite a few beautiful mellow songs..yes...beautiful....i was shocked when i popped it in my cd player, and after it had finished, played it again...give it a try...hell, at least they write,perform, and PLAY LIVE!! all of their own tunes..it's real music...let's support it.
Yes, I must admit I haven't paid much attention to Green Day since their Dookie days but this new stuff really hit me. And the songs are so diverse, they start off as one thing and become others and stuff. Some of them are like 5 or 6 songs in one. It's a pretty interesting album.

I always found Green Day annoying, and one of my friends made me listen to everything. I also cannot forgive them for starting the whole bullshit pop-punk movement. I always thought they should be raked over the coals for spawning Good Charlotte.
But I did get Idiot, and it's great. They've never written topical lyrics like this,a nd they do a good job. And the songs ROCK!

albums like dookie and insomniac have about as much in common with garbage like good charlotte as public enemy had in common with vanilla ice. see, there's formulaic watered down radio fodder, and then there's the real deal...Green Day have always been (and still are) the real deal. they were the only real punk band to make big waves in the mainstream throughout the entirety of the 90's and the fact the they're still here kicking our asses in 04, a decade removed from the success of dookie is a testament to just how good these guys are. if you want to hate on somebody for starting the "pop-punk" movement, hate the Ramones, cuz they started it...not Green Day. people make the mistake of labeling good charlotte and that sort of shit as "pop-punk" when the reality of it is that there's nothing punk about them at all, they're just pop, the same as Britney or Justin or whoever, all image all the time, ridin' on MTV's nuts, with very little in the way of talent or originality. this "movement" you speak of is more or less just a sad attempt on the behalf of the dinosaurs that run the labels trying to bag themselves another "grunge", they don't care that the music sucks, the kids eat it up because most of them don't get exposed to anything better, and even if they do, they still buy up a ton of shit before they smarten up. i'll admit, i bought a whole assload of nu metal discs a few years back, but i came to my senses and realized "hey, wait a sec, these all sound the same, i've been had!". i've since pawned most of them and now i dl and thouroughly listen to everything before i buy it. i find it hard to believe that in the age of the internet, with so much music readily available for free out there, that people still go out and waste money on shitty, trendy, overpriced, garbage cd's. anywho...
BOTTOM LINE: Green Day (and American Idiot) are a godsend in a world where Good Charlotte is percieved by millions to be "pop-punk".
Have to agree - I'm really enjoying Green Day's new stuff and I'll be seeing them live in January - never been to a punk concert before so this should be interesting. :jump

I'm listening to Bullet In A Bible / Brain Stew. Incredible.
Although I hate the little emo kids who praise Green Day and haven't heard anything from around the Nimrod days, Green Day can still tear down the fuckin' walls.
But still, I won't be wearing eyeliner any time soon.

Coincidence, I just heard something on the radio this morning on the drive in to work.
Apparently in a recent interview with Billie Joe he said they have over 45 songs recorded, but its going to be quite a while before a new album comes out because they can not decide/agree on what cuts to put on it...........
And on a side note.........American Idiot is getting even better with age...........its going to be considered a classic album in a few years.........
