Dear Darkest Canuck:

We await further comment from you. As an evident Yankees fan, you certainly have the time on your hands now. Unless, of course, you're too busy applying the Heimlich Maneuver to your team. Big Grin
I have a friend who is a huge yanks fan and he has been since he was a little kid. Can someone please name the big name players on their current team that they bought to get ahead. Perhaps A Rod and Olerud but most of the guys came out of their farm team if I'm not mistaken. The reason they have such a high pay roll is because look at their fan base. Almost every home game is a sell out for one reason, Yankee fans are some of the most dedicted fans....next to hip fans, lol. Think of the revenue people. Yankees are basebell but I agree they shouldn't win every year. It's nice to see other teams win for sure. Anyways, Go astros!!!

That was such an enjoyable ad. Nike may go for the obvious, but they do it so well. The music is what gets me.

Let me see who's not homegrown-

ARod
Sheffield
Vazquez
Kevin Brown
Mike Mussina
Tom Gordon
Pretty much all of their pitching staff aside from Mo' Rivera actually.
Kenny Lofton
Matsui
Tony Clark
John Olerud
Rueben Sierra

There homegrown talent is Jeter, Posada, Rivera and Bernie Williams. That's 4 relevant players that came from the Yankee farm system. I think most teams have a few more. Tongue

Yep. And it works whether they win or lose, great ad. Something to be said for loyalty.

Of the Red Sox current 25 man roster, only 3 broke into the majors with them...

Well, the players who were outside the system were already mentioned.

I found the quote- "The reason they have such a high pay roll is because look at their fan base. Almost every home game is a sell out for one reason, Yankee fans are some of the most dedicted fans" to be interesting. To my knowlege, the reason the Yanks and Steinbrenner have an enourmous amount of money has a lot to do with televison deals. I think the cable deals the Yanks (Steinbrenner) have is the biggest reason for the money.

Also, the Red Sox are just as bad as the Yankees. The Yanks and Sox are two organizations who buy teams. It's an inarguable fact. They operate the same way, hoping to buy a World Series Champ.

Look at the Bo Sox starting lineup: Ramirez, Damon, Mueller, Bellhorn, Cabrera, Millar, and Ortiz weren't raised in the farm system. Last I checked Schilling was bought for the sole purpose of beating the Yankees too.

This is just my response to thehip11's comment that most of the guys came from their farm team, which is not even remotely true. I don't particularly like the Red Sox either, I'm a Twins/Cardinals fan. I don't remember the part where I tried to prove the Red Sox had any more home grown talent.

I was just pointing out in a thread entitled 'Why do you hate the Yankees?' (which btw you seemed eager to join in and Tongue to) that the Bosox are even more guilty than the Yankees of building their team thru other means than their farm system/draft.
The Yankee bashing being done by Bosox fans in regards to the Yankees 'buying their team' is a little hypocritical. Not to mention the throng of bandwagon fans coming out of the woodwork on here.

a) I do hate the Yankees, I don't deny it. Tongue I resent any team that has a payroll over 100 million dollars when my home team has a payroll below 60 million.

b) Few things bother me more when Yankee fans start talking about their homegrown talent. I'd have the same response if someone tried to tell me the Sox had lots of players from their minor league system. I sort of divide Yankee fans into two categories.

1). Those who know that the Yankees are money making machine and make no apologies for the way they are run. I don't have a problem with these people.

2). Those make all kinds of excuses for why the Yankees have a bloated payroll and whine when other people complain about it. These people bother me. I'm not saying that other fans of other teams don't do it to, but in general Yankee fans seem to be a bit more vocal about it. [/quote]
