Yall know I got my lyrics site...

Anyway, Silver Road was brought up in another thread by Skippy who said he sorta considered it a Hip song. Just curious if people think it's "Hip" enough to include on my Hip lyric site.

I never included it before cuz I was unsure if I should. (I totally forgot about the MWB OST songs! lol) I have covers on my site that weren't written by The Hip but were performed by them. Did The Hip write Silver Road? Is it "a Hip song"? Or no?

Okay? 1.... 2.... 3.... DEBATE! Smile
I say no, because Sarah Harmer has a non-Hip version on her new CD. The Hip were more or less her backing band for the MWB version......

According to the all-knowing All Music Guide, Sarah wrote Silver Road.

No, it's only an honorary Hip song.

Since the lyrics weren't written by GD, we have to consider them Hip apocrypha.
On the album it says Sarah Harmer with The Tragically Hip, so im assuming she wrote the song and they just played it together, so I guess its her song. If the Hip wrote some of the lyrics and music that would be different. But I would include it anyway, I like that song and it is the Hip playing and singing, so go for it! :thumb:
include it with an *
I believe on the Men With Brooms soundtrack it says Sarah Harmer with The Hip, now that I think of it id like to get that song again, someone send me the song in mp3 format!!!!! :jump

I'd make a special section where you can put all of the hip but non hip stuff like Gord's solo stuff and stuff like that.

BTW, NO it's not hip.
my vote is for not hip.

Otherwise Paul Langlois playing with Chris and Kate on Great Lakes Bootleg counts as Hip too.

But let's not draw the line at "Gord D. has to write it" because Gord S. wrote some of the more (or less) fantastic ditties on the EP.

but silver road is not a hip song.

Silver Road - Not Hip

Great Lakes Bootleg - the first 3 songs are awesome. The rest of the album is great, but those first three are killer.
I Vote for Not Hip.

Sarah Harmer wrote it, and it doesn't even sound like the Hip backing her. It could be any folksy foursome.

However, perhaps you SHOULD add a site with "Hip associated" songs. These would inclue Silver Road, the Rheostatics number Gord sang on CBC, the Skydiggers song Gord guested on that was posted on the FTP a short while ago, Hey Maria (written by Andrew Cash), etc.

My two cents.
its definitely not Hip. grooveless idea sounds pretty good, Hip associated songs

What I meant was that biblical scholars agree it ain't the word of the Gord.

What makes me write things like that?

Consensus says Silver Road isn't Hip, so let's ask when a song is Hip ... is Summerside of Life Hip? Or Black Day in July? Lightfoot songs performed by the band in acoustic mode. What separates Silver Road from Summerside of Life?

Just askin' for discussion's sake.
There is no question about who wrote Summerside of Life and Black Day in July.

The lead vocal of Silver Road was sung by Sarah Harmer (not in The Hip for those keeping score).

Gord Downie sang the lead on The Hip's cover versions of the songs above.

Additionally, the Lightfoot songs were previously released by Lightfoot. Silver Road was brand new, and if memory serves me, released initially on the MWB soundtrack - prior to the inclusion on Sarah Harmer's record. Hmmm....
Thanks for the opinions everyone. Okay, so I guess it's "not Hip"... Smile

The thing is I included cover songs (Road Runner/Black Day In July/etc); not written by the Hip but sung by them, so, thinking that way, by default, I should include songs written by The Hip (any member, of course) but not necessarily sung by them.

Anybody know of some? Written by a member of the Hip but not sung by them?
Cuz technically the site's "ALL the lyrics", right? Even the ones...

Aw, crap, I'm thinking I should include Silver Road anyway...
I figured I'd come to some sorta resolution... But Gord sings on it...

Maybe it's too early for me right now. Tongue
