90 in a 65
$165.30 ticket
3 points on my license
I was on my way back to Pittaburgh after my fiance and I broke up. I just wanted to get home.
Too many close calls that I am not proud of and do not want to curse my self on when I got the last one.
I read about a guy whose sports car was impounded in Montreal after he was caught drag racing in an empty parking lot - going 145 km/h in a posted 10 zone. I don't think anybody in history has beaten that...that's like 14 times the speed limit!
How'd you like to be in Sweden where they fine you according to your income level..i read that the CEO of Nokia or some other company got fined $75, 000 dollars for going 70 in a 45. Yikes!

cratch: on a deserted snowy road.
Why did you get a ticket when you weren't even going the limit?? I understand that the roads were slippery but the limit was still 55. Is it because he felt that you weren't using enough caution? What did he say you should be driving at? (speed) That is ridiculous...especially since the road wasn't a busy one :?
Well, I know in some places they can ticket you for going LESS than an ideal speed...but that's usuallly only when you're holding up traffic. Maybe the cop was bored and just wanted the thrill of racing after someone on a deserted snowy road!
I know cops here can cite people if they feel people are going at speeds lesser than the posted speed limit if they feel it is unsafe to drive at that speed during inclement weather. It can be completely arbitrary and at the cop's discretion and its a bitch to fight in court for the obvious reasons.

He never told me what was a "good" speed. He was either bored or got up on the wrong side of the bed that day. The judge ended up throwing it out anyway. The judge agreed that I was driving at a safe speed for the conditions.
Heard a funny story about someone who got a $50 ticket in the mail with a picture of his car running a redlight. The guy, pissed about getting this ticket from a camera, took a picture of a $50 bill and mailed it back to the courthouse. The police, apparently not amused by this, took a picture of handcuffs and sent it back to the guy. Needless to say, he sent them a check for the $50.
My dad told me this funny story a few months back:
A guy was driving along the street in a 50 km zone when he drove by a camera and it went off. He checked his speedometer and he was driving under the speed limit so of course he was pissed off. He thought "this can't be right " so he turned the car around, drove up to the camera, made sure he was under the 50 and passed the camera. FLASH! The thing went off again - he got even more pissed. He's like " I'll show 'em" so he turned the car around.. again... slowed his speed down to like 20, crept by the camera... and FLASH! Thing goes off again. He decides enough is enough and heads off home seriously ticked off. :x Few weeks later it was d-day. The mail man arrives with 3 tickets for the guy.. turns out he didn't getting flashed cause of his speed but because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt and that three times in a row. Nice amount that must have been
When I was in the USA last year, we got pulled over two times within three weeks. There were two guys in the front of the car and three girls in the back. The cop was a real jerk, blinding us with his flashlight and he was just downright rude, telling one of my friends to shut up when he was trying to explain something- i was amazed he let us off with a warning (we passed a stop sign without stopping).
The second time it was just me and a girlfriend of mine in the car, a cop pulled us over but my friend batted her eyelashes, exploited her European accent and basically sweet talked her way out of a fine, it's good to be a girl sometimes.
This thread reminded me of this recent story:

I've had a few run-in's with the law because of my heavy foot. A couple summers ago I was driving in Southern Alberta on a sunday afternoon around Vulcan doing about 130km in a 100 zone. I came around a corner and saw the cop coming but it was too late, he got me. I pulled off to the side and had my license and registration all ready to hand to him before he'd even turned around. He got to the car and asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I told him around 130, then he asked me if there was any reason I was going that fast. I said no, not really, not a good reason at least. He chuckled, went away to his car and came back eventually with a warning. He said he'd never had someone just tell him the truth before, he always got some crazy made up story. Told me to slow down and have a nice day. :thumb:
I've always been polite to police when I've been pulled over. Most are thankful for it but some just wanna be assholes no matter what. This time the polite honest approach paid off in spades.
My latest run in which was the first in a looong time was this summer. I was in the middle of 3 cars and we were all going about 140 - 150 on straight ass Sask. roads. So a cop was coming the other way and tagged me because the guy in the lead got stuck behind a car trying to pass. He clocked me at 118 down from 150, so I was at least thankful for that. Still netted me a $120 ticket though.
went down to toledo in 98 to see the hip, rocking to some hip tunes not even realizing how fast i was going, got pulled over by OPP for doing 151 in 100 zone, cop knocked it down to 149.....was able to continue my journey to see the hip not going a km over 100 for the rest of the trip.
This story is unrelated to speeding but a somewhat humorous / sad police story.
My brother-in-law is a cop (good guy, honestly). Not to long ago he came across a car on a 2 lane highway, stopped, facing eastbound on the westbound shoulder. He thought he should check it out so he pulled around and walked up to the car. The engine was running and it was in drive. The guy inside was passed out with his head on the steering wheel but his foot was on the brake. Preparing himself the cop opened the door, pushed the guy back into the seat and quickly threw the car into park.
The guy came to and reeked of alcohol. The cop asked him how long he'd been there and he said only a few minutes. Then he asked the guy what time it was and he said 10:00pm. It was 4:00 am and had really been there for 6 hours. He blew .300 into the breathalyzer (.008 the legal driving limit here in Ontario). He was so out of it as they were walking back to the cruiser (and here's the funny part) he asked the cop why he pulled him over. It's crazy what some people will do.
