Agreed. I think you suggested the album over the summer and I promtly bought it. It's excellent stuff. I will always have a huge soft spot for BNL. Excellent off-beat, semi-mopey, non-emo music that's perfect for a moody kid from Delaware. They also inadvertently introduced me to the hip.

Nobody mentioned Bruce Cockburn yet. Allow me.

Bruce Cockburn.
Strapping Young Lad, Three Inches Of Blood, K-OS, Sea Of Green, Neil Young, Rush, The Tea Party, Sam Roberts, Sloan, Junkhouse, I Mother Earth, Matthew Good, Malefaction, The End, At The Mercy Of Inspiration, Death From Above, Brassmunk...

this is pointless, i listen to more Canadian music than i do anything else...what can i say...WE ROCK (amongst other things)!
grooveless touque Wrote:Neil Young's my fave Canadian by far...but in terms of today's music, probably Blue Rodeo!

Neil's still putting out great music which in my books counts as "today's music" Greendale was fantastic. :thumb:
Yes it was, especially the live acoustic DVD (which I ripped and put on CD to listen to everywhere, I liked it so much) I was just thinking I should suggest a Hip contemporary I like...good call, though!
I don't have a favourite Canadian band besides the Hip!
But I do have some notable mentions (in order of importance);

The Headstones (did someone even mention them yet!?)
Neil Young (should be in everyone's post)
Finger 11 (awesome band, "good times"? and "one thing"? nuff said)
Blue Rodeo (I've listened to these dudes since I was like 9, lol)
Matt Good (yet again, another good artist)
Alanis Morissette (yer not reading this; JLP friggin rocked!)
Tea Party (one wicked song after another)
Our Lady Peace (not their new crap but the "Clumsy" era)
The Philosopher Kings (secret addiction, leave me alone)
Chantal Kreviazuk (another secret addiction)

Brazle, you are THE MAN!

Neil Young should be in everyone's post. I forgot Blue Rodeo. JLP by Alanis is actually one of my favourite albums along with OK Computer, Day for Night, the Bends, and a few others. I like Naveed by OLP. I have three Chantal K albums. My interest has fallen in her music but a few years ago she was right up there with the Hip and Tea Party. Speaking of Tea Party, "The River" is one of the best songs of the last 15 years. They have lots of great stuff too.

Also, I'll give a shout out to Lightfoot, Cockburn, and Leonard Cohen. Three very talented men. Joni Mitchell also but she doesn't really sing anymore. Rush have some great stuff, Sloan have some good stuff. There are tons of talented bands in Canada. Cowboy Junkies, 54-40, Howie Beck, The Dears, Weakerthans, etc.

I only like two songs by Neil Young, otherwise, I don't get it, and I missed Alanis, JLP was a great album!:-D

It's so funny to think about Alanis back in her You Can't Do That On Television days and when she was a pop princess!!

I REMEMBER THAT!

I'd have to say my favourites are:

BNL - always been a huge fan from way back when they were playing the University club scene for free.

RUSH - My older brother got me hooked on them at a young age.

Gordon Lightfoot - My parents influenced me here but he's got some great songs.

Our Lady Peace - The Clumsy album was awesome. I won't go on a road trip without it. Not to mention, Rain is HOT!

The Rankins - Again my parents influenced me.

Great Big Sea - They have some really fun song like "The Night Pat Murphy Died"

The Guess Who

Trooper - "A very good friend of mine...told me something the other day". Hot Shots was a great album.

Alannah Myles - Yes I'm a child of the 80's. I use to love to crank her debut album and work out to it.

what makes us not a canadain band.
Sorry if my post came across offensive Ron. I was just trying to say that it's interesting how most people (including radio stations) think of Big Wreck as being Canadian, when 3/4 of the members aren't. But I guess the biggest question is what makes a band Canadian.

Just posting something that's made me think before... definitely wasn't an attack on you.

I'll go with:

The Headstones
Eric Clapton (Yep, he counts...)
Neil
Clapton's Canadian?? Confusedcratch: I thought he was an English bloke.
I can't believe no one else said....
