...In 2009. Conan, Jay and the NBC goons worked out a deal today where Jay will retire at 59, after 17 years as host of The Tonight Show, and allow Conan to take over.
I know there were some folks around here who wanted to see Conan take the 12:30 spot after Dave on CBS, but in the long run, this has to be better for him...
Jon Stewart is now seriously rumoured to be CBS's number 1 replacement for Dave. Jon is done with Comedy Central in 2008.
So, come fall 2009, it looks like we could have Letterman vs. Leno replaced by O'Brien vs. Stewart.
A lot of talk about Jay being pushed/pressured to take the deal, so it should be interesting to see who says what about the deal on their respective shows...
Hmmm, very interesting....I would love to see Stewart replace Dave :thumb:
[sarcasm]I could care less either way; bring back Bullard. [/sarcasm]
Actually, there was a time where I never missed Letterman, but with work responsibilities requiring early mornings, Late Night's are out of the question for me.
I read that today, good for Conon. He is the best on late night!
i wonder who'll take their jobs then...?
I think NBC learned something when Johnny left and Leno took over. After that they lost Dave. Way to go NBC Connan definitely deserves to be sitting behind the desk after Leno leaves.
I'm gonna miss Dave when he leaves:-( But JOhn Stewart will be a great replacement!!!
i want to see a conan & andy richter reunion...
I like Conan, I think he'll do good in Jay's spot, ill be glad to see Letterman off, he doesnt make me laugh anymore, his jokes are tiresome to me now. I like who said Bullard should come back, indeed. I liked his show, his need a network who actually gets behind him and appreciates his work. :jump

I pray to god that that is sarcasm. Bullard was painful to watch. Absolutely terrible. I can;t believe he lasted as long as he did. I love letterman's dry wit. He is a very funny man. And I agree, Stewart would make a great replacement, he has intellectual wit which is even more hysterical.
I suppose everyone has their preferences...
i was amazed to find out that bullard is actually a stand up comedian....that would be a hard job when you lack any sense of humour...he was the unfunniest talk show host i have ever seen

Really?! That would be like chopping his balls off. Stewart needs his "fringe" show to be funny. He'd be downright neutured on a major sort of "brand name" show. I don't like late night talks shows at all - not Leno, Conan, Bullard, Letterman, Kilborn - but I love the Daily Show. Obviously Jon Stewart will eventually have to move on to something else, but I hope it's not the hour-long celeb-stooge shows.
I'll have to agree. I think that the humor of Jon Stewart is rooted in the obscurity that The Daily Show once posessed. If he shifts to a major network, I fear that most of his comedy would have to be dumbed down, diluted, and stripped of it's unique qualities.

For sure...can you imagine Dave getting to call Robert Novak a "douchebag for liberty"?? Of course not! And what shape would we be in without our nightly reminder from Jon that Novak is a douchebag...
didn't stewart have a show on ABC a few years back? i seem to remeber it being really, really funny

He had a FOX gig, and was involved in the original Jay/Dave Tonight Show sweepstakes... hence his guest spots on the old Larry Sanders show as the guy who was always "rumored" to be taking Larry's job. Hard to believe that Stewart is 40 something and worked for twenty years before his overnight success.
