O.K. As I said before, I do apologize for not reading the previous thread about the Cleveland show, and thereby starting a new thread on the topic. I will try to do a better search next time....
Jen, I think the pic is great and I am sorry I didn't recognise you straight away. Humblest apologies on my part.
I may get flamed for saying this next part, but what the fuck, here goes...
I really don't understand what all the pissin' and moanin' is about, in regards to the setlists. Maybe I'm not as hardcore in my "fandom" as others, but I really don't care what songs they play or how often. As long as I can see them play I'm happy. I know a lot of people who would love to see The Hip more than once in a tour, and the fact that I will see them no less than four times (five if the "Bear gods" are good to me) is a real privilege. Sure, the road trips and ticket costs add up to a considerable sum, especially for those who take in several shows. But I'm positive there are many who would agree that the expense is equal to the lifetime of memories and friendships made along the way. The songs are a only a part of the package, IMHO. The stage presence, the energy and, for those lucky enough, meeting the band are every bit as memorable as the songs they play.
I understand how an unchanging setlist can affect those who record the shows. It's hard to make fresh, new boots and DVD's when the material has been covered several times before. For those few, I realize that it is somewhat of a disappointment. But for the rest of us, I think we should consider ourselves lucky. In an industry made up of lip-syncer's whose only job is to look pretty, and bands who refuse to go on at the last minute, Das Hip have always given a solid show and held to their commitments. We should be thanking them, not slagging them.
Now that I have given my two cents, I will retire from my soapbox and prepare to don my asbestos garb...
