Thanks Jenna...these shots were taken as Dan Aycroyd was introducing them. You wouldn't believe how loud it was. Since I've been getting to know these guys, I keep forgetting that they are a massive band. Plus, they are just a bunch of great guys. I had lost my ride later on that night, and Rob Baker said I could crash at his place if need be. No wonder they have done so well. Courtesy will take you everywhere.
We all went down to the Merchant MacLiam for the after party. I had some of the best talks with Paul Langlois' dad (who was Hugh's gym teacher in high school), John Angus from The Trews, Matt Good and his drummer Pat Steward(who is my drum hero right now), Bruce MacDonald, Kirk Muller and The Spades. So many great bands, and such a great cause.

Also, what kind of relationship do the Hip have with Matt Good. From speaking with other Canadian artists in the past, I have heard several negative things about him and his attitude. I also seem to remember Matt making comments about the Hip ending every song with guitar solos, questioning the motives of GD selling his poetry book /w the CD included, and suggesting that the record label bought back copies of the Hip's own CDs to inflate record sales. I may be pinning these comments on the wrong guy, but I do believe Matt Good had been associated with them.

Naw, it was a private after party. Matt Good seems to really get along with the guys in the Hip, and actually, I had heard the same thing you had. If that was the case, it did not ring true on Sunday. I really got along with Matt, and I don't tolerate "holier than thou" attitudes. He's a smart fella with great outlook.
Not to mention, he had Pat Steward on drums (ex-The Odds, Sharkskin), who just rules the drums. Pat is thelick!

i was also backstage for the entire day and was just out of shot for the pics of the hip preparing to go on stage it was just an unreal day seeing the happenings of all things hip related. Seeing the band come off the stage after performing locked with akroyd was great- from my vantage point i could see them- they were so excited and pumped after the song and getting preped to go on stage was just surreal as the roar of the crowd got louder as they walked the steps- The party afterwards was in a great little bar- the merchant- across from the holiday inn where most of the bands were staying for the night - like i did the entire day i just sorta of took it all in - The lead singer of the trews could be seen thru out the hip set singing along from the side of the stage and although i didnt get the chance to talk to any of the band members of the hip it was a day i will soon not forget- Really It was a great lineup of bands and i dont think you could get a more down to earth bunch of bands/people together in one day just awesome-

I have a feeling we met, Ryan...I agree with the vibe backstage and at the Merch. Every band was really nice, which is surprising for these kind of bills. I Got to introduce Colin (singer of The trews) to Bruce MacDonald...you should've seen Colin's eyes light up. He's a huge Bruce fan. That was a sweet moment.
