Just thought I'd share my thoughts. I've been a fan of this song since the first time I ever heard all of Day For Night. In all the midst of the new tour dates, and the Kingston show, I was really thinking just what song I would love to hear live; this is it. Not played in nine years. It deserves its due.

"I love you even when / I don't even know I'm doing it"

So simple, yet probably my favourite Downie lyric.

Cheers

Pat
Every mix CD I've ever made that had the Hip's music on it ended with this song. As a closer it's one of the very best, and probably my favourie on any Hip album after Josephine and Penguin.

"'roses are worth more dried than alive'; such you a thing to say"

Your "appreciation" is much appreciated!
one of their most underated songs, great closer.
Not played live that often, correct? Yea, this song deserves more appreciation. That album is almost TOO good...
Of the recorded shows from the DFN tour, a handful of times played at most, dropped either on the Canadian leg, or early in the spring US tour.

I'm lucky enough to have it on the 08-08-94 cassette from Club Met in Harrisburg PA. It's equally effective as an opener to an encore as it is a closer to an album.

Cheers

This thread got me excited. I always wondered if I was the only one who digs that song. As Heron outside implies, it's probably just overshadowed by all the other fireworks on that masterpiece.

'With Impossibilium for a payload...' That's too cool. A rumination on marriage, I assume, and all the baggage and dreams and expectations that come with it? Or am I nuts?

It's one of my faves too. I was really impressed with it when I heard it the first time!
this post made me go listen to that song off the Maple Leaf Gardens show from '95...god damn I really did need to study for my exam tommorow, but oh well :thumb: :jump
I think "Impossibilium" would make a great opener/encore opener; I think it's opened a few shows in its time, but I'd love it if this would reenter the rotation *somewhere*, either up front or at the back or anywhere in between.

Roses are worth more dried than alive,

Steve
Your fingers start to wiggle and landscapes emerge....

Is there a better line than that anywhere - conjuring up such vastness and mystery with so few words...
I'm such a fan of the song; and im also a fan of the conclusion to DFN. I've heard the ending to DFN get a bad rap, but i dont understand it, i think it ends on one of its highest points, with An Inch an Hour, Emergency, Titanic and Impossibilium; I think it ends with a flourish, and ive never understood how anybody could call that the weak point of the album; and frankly, the album doesnt have a weak point.
I dunno...'Daredevil' and 'Greasy Jungle' don't entirely convince me. But the album is a dynamo, and I'm with you---that conclusion is awesome. I can't understand why 'Terrarium' isn't more appreciated than it is. For me, that's one of GD's major statements. 'Inch an Hour' is a blast, and 'Impossibilium,' well...this IS the official Impossibilium appreciation thread. :thumb:

But I say again: a song about marriage, or what? 'Impossibilium as a payload'= the expectations and dreams we pile onto marriage?
