This is unreal. This just blows my mind. Im all set to purchase a pair of tickets to the Hip's show in Seattle this October, when what do I find. "21+". !?!?!?!?!?!?!?! 21 fucking years old? Seriously what the fuck is up with this country and its goddamn conservative repression of youth. Twenty fucking one. I dont give a damn if I cant go to that country and buy their shitty beer, thats their problem, and a whole other issue that boggles my mind (thank Reagan for that). But to prevent an adult (Im 19 years old, not a fucking child) from seeing art being performed in a social venue is just ludicrous and appalling. I dont even want to drink your beer, I just want to see my favourite fucking band in the whole world.

Art is healthy. Music is art. Very positive things. Guns, cigarettes, and HARD drugs are very, very negative things. Funny, the stipulations attached to these detrimental activities are far less sweeping than seeing a god damned concert. So instead of seeing something productive and inspirational, I can go buy a gun and shoot stuff while I smoke cigarettes and crack. Thats what Ill do, crack. I hear theres no age restriction on that stuff.

Im 19 years old, not a fucking child (even though I may be giving that impression in my blind ((and completely justified)) rage). Ive emailed the venue, and am awaiting a response....Im seriously so angry I could...I could...nevermind...
You don't have to tell me..my last trip south of our border was a whole lot more boring than it should have been becase I couldn't go into their pubs and sample the local music and culture. I was shocked...I have been able to drive for four years, and I could buy a gun if I wanted, and somehow they don't think I should touch a drop of liquor. I'm sorry this is affecting you too.

On a social level this actually makes it more DANGEROUS for kids...instead of drinking safe alcohol in a proper establishment, they might drink homemade stuff or go to illegal lengths to get ahold of it. All it does is make alcohol seem like a forbidden fruit, which makes kids go apeshit once they get ahold of it. By having a more liquor friendly culture like France or Germany, you greatly REDUCE, not INCREASE, such things as public intoxication and young people drinking and driving!

SUPPRESSION NEVER WORKS!!! GODDAMNED CONSERVATIVES!!!
Just borrow someone's ID.......

When I was young and not yet 21 we'd head north of the border and we'd hang out in bars and stuff.

However, some bars here in the states will allow you to come in if you are 18-21 if you have a special wrist band. I think they should do that everywhere if a band is playing. There's a band from where I live and they are very popular and going to California next month because they have a recording contract. Some people made the trip all the way up here to see them in their hometown and people under 21 were not allowed. I worked at the place across the street and some kids came in complaining about coming all the way up from Albany and they were like 18&20, I think that sucks.
After the first 18 pack, their beer does start to taste pretty good though, you have to admit it.

Hmmm...
3 of my favourite things....
What can I say?
I'll play the villain...

No problem
christ kid just get a fake ID and a case of SLeamy Creamies and house em in the parking lot. Problem(s) solved!
yea, fake ID or borrowing someones is cool to do this but i've seen viciousmartyr at the Vancouver show and he definately is definately a unique person who wouldn't be able to borrow ID that readily. On the other hand fake ID you can supply your own pic so that might be the way to go.
All for now,
AE
BTW see you in Seattle (hopefully!)

What, does he have an eye patch or a lobotomy scar or diamond-studded teeth (you gotta change your avatar, I'm channeling every episode Lenny has ever been in!!)?

Os is he a celebrity? Is HE one of the Hip?!?!

This is a fundamental issue that goes deeper than purchasing a fake ID. Sure that'd be a quick fix, but the point is I shouldnt have to buy a fake ID for $100 or whatever from some shady character. Doing that and not letting my outrage be known would allude to the impression that I somehow agree with, or am indifferent to their conservative policies. This is an ass-backward policy that does not serve the interest of ANYONE. Who stands to benefit? Me? The venue? The general population? The government? Christian consertvatives: ahhh, theres your answer. It just boggles my mind that someone such as myself can be treated in such a condescending manner.

I just cant understand, why is this policy put up with in your country? The only country in the "free" world to have such a backward policy in this respect. Take a lesson from a more culturally advanced society, such as Europe, or Canada even.

As for the appearance, well thats a tricky one. This may help, some (jokingly) make the connection....(Grizzly Adams)
great visual viciousmartyr!

grooveless....unless Grizzly Adams joined das hip VM is not one of them! He just isn't one of thoes people who looks a lot like other people, he's not non-descript, if you follow...

All for now,
Aaron
stupid as it is, the 21 year old drinking age is linked to the states enforcing it to recieve federal funding for their highways. If a state drops the age, federal funding is lost.
I don't get that. Kids in the US can drive at 16 but can't drink till 21 and then people are surprised at the rate of drink-and-drive accidents that happen over there?

Why not lower the drinking age, let kids "experiment " with alcohol so they know what its effects can be, how much they can and can't drink and then hand them the carkeys.
Kids can enlist in their army and die for their country at 18.
They can't see some of their favorite bands until theyre 21.

Hmmmmm.
