Here's some pictures I took last weekend on a hike that my wife and I went on to Shadow Lake Lodge. Great weekend for a hike in the mountains.
We went in from the North and went out to the South. Total distance was around 30km up and down.
Here's the map. We went in via Arnica Lake Trail and Gibbon Pass trail and then went out via Redearth Creek Trail:
Start of the Hike:
Hazy view of Castle Mountain:
Arnica Lake w/ Storm Mountain in the background:
More of the same:
Upper Twin Lake w/ Storm Mt. in the background:

waterfall into Lower Twin Lake:

Finally at the top of Gibbon Pass 7,500 ft.(looking South, where we're going):

Shadow Lake Lodge and cabins:
Our Cabin for the night:
Rewarding view from our porch after the 6 hour hike:
Excellent time was had by us both. I'd recommend Shadow Lake Lodge for anyone who likes hiking and the mountains.
Great food, people and stellar scenery. :thumb:
Absolutely stunning...I belong in the mountains! I can't wait to post pics of my recent trip through the Rockies, since there seems to be demand for such things!
Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to get back out there...
Those are amazing, beautiful pics, I love the mountains..Looks like only a 2 hour drive , at least to the highway exit, from cowtown. Awesome scenery.
I love that part of Canada. I have driven the Jasper - Banff highway a few times. I see something different everytime.
God you guys have a beautiful country....
We got the mountains, we got desert, we got tropical rainforest, we got harsh rocky barrens, glaciers, coastal cliffs...we're spoilt rotten!
There are a million places here where you can feel like the only one for miles around...better yet, the first to ever set foot right where you are...whether it's on the granite mountains by the sea here in Nova Scotia or the high alpine of the Rockies or the ancient forests of Vancouver Island...
Sorry, high on our wilderness still from my trip out west...
those are some of the most amazing pics i've ever seen,
i cant begin to understand what it would be like to view that in person

The beauty of Ontario, hee hee.
I guess being in south-western ontario I dont quite consider it too beautiful. I forget about the Muskokas, 1000 islands, and Algonquin.
And I must say the beautiful beach here in Grand Bend on Lake Huron is pretty damn beautiful.
I guess I just needed to be reminded of my surroundings!
Wow, beautiful pics/place. Thanks for posting those :thumb:
WOW!

hock: That is some gorgeous scenery!! I love the second picture! It's almost eerie in a very good way!
Thanks for all the comments. It wasn't that hard to get a good picture up there with that kind of backdrop to work from.
Mark, it's about 1 1/2 hours to the Arnica Lake trailhead. We dropped our car off at the Redearth creek trailhead and my mom took us to the Arnica lake one on her way through to Invermere so that worked really well.
If someone was to go on a day hike up in this area, I would recommend the Arnica Lake trail over the Redearth creek trail. Arnica Lake is a harder hike, up and down, but the scenery in there is truely spectacular. Redearth creek is nice too, but it doesn't have any of the nice lakes and great views that the Arnica lake trail did. If anyone actually wants to go up and stay at Shadow Lake Lodge, I'd recommend going in the Arnica Lake trail and out the Redearth creek trail. We were very happy that we had the easier trail out to look forward to after the hard trail in.
Anyway, this is only one tiny area, there are tons of other great hikes around that get you to places that are just as cool. So get out of the city and up into the hills.
Oh ya, one other thing to note is that there are bears out there with you. We didn't actually see any, but everyone else we talked to at the lodge had seen at least one bear. I was hoping that we'd see one on the way out but no...
I saw a bear in Fernie (I'll post my pics when I get around to it...) and even though it was on the far side of a river, I couldn't stand there amazed by its presence...as the hair stood up on the back of my neck, all I could think was "how far can a bear smell a human?!?!" I hightailed it...still, at least I can say I saw it.
Cool , thanks alot for the advice Royce !! :thumb:
