Saw Rush on Thursday near Boston and although it rained it was one awesome show....there is only one word...tight...wow! Over 3 hour set, great setlist mixing oldies and new...very good jam/video montonge to open the show (instrumental combining songs from all their albums.) Glad I picked that over the Phish Phiasco which is about an hour away from where I live...
Johnny can play the skins, but here is the master...

He's only got a FEW more drums than Johnny..
imho, rush is one of the most over-rated bands EVER
The musicianship of Alex,Geddy and Neil are beyond reproach. Their live shows however arent as great as they used to be in my opinion.
This thread just scared the shit out of me when that picture started loading and the screen stretched...

I don't know how anyone can think Rush is overrated. They are musician's musicians... most everyone I ask considers them irritating, especially geddy's voice, but they are definitely not overrated.
I don't even like them but I do respect them. They're one of those bands that is truly artistic, and even if you don't appreciate it for what it is (and I don't), you gotta appreciate that they have the cajones to pull it off AND sell out stadiums.
They are an amazing band. Neil Peart is a genious, no less. Like joshwayy said, the word is TIGHT.
Hate their vocals, hate their "sci-fi" style music and lyrics, but they truly are musicians. I cant think of a rock act that plays more complex music than they do, and for that, I have the utmost repsect for them.
Oh, and they sound awesome....most of the time
Hee hee...Lenny, your comment reminded me of what the Trailer Park Boys had to say about Rush...
Ricky: "It's stupid sh*t, like how outer space works and how trees are talkin' to each other and f*cked up sh*it like that...now Helix, that was an awesome rock show. "Gimme an R-O-C-K-!" and the crowd screams "ROCK!"
Bubbles: "Rush are f*ckin' great...not like that Helix sh*t...I mean geez, gimme a f*ckin' R..."
Hahaha, thats what inspired me!
I am not a huge fan but how can you not respect the guys? Peart is one of the top drummers in the world. Johnny is good and fits well with the Hip but his expertise on the drums is far behind Peart's. They are all very good to great musicians and play music for the right reasons. Don't have to like 'em but you gotta respect them. As for them being overrated, I strongly disagree with that statement. The most overrated band in the world is U2. Heck, I like U2 but all this "greatest band in the world" talk about them is foolish.

Along with: (Carter Beauford of DMB)
I was just going to say that. Actually I was going to say it earlier but forgot. You get my sloppy seconds.
His drumming on the live album Listener Supported blows me away. Hands down the best drumming on any album I own.

if you think that is good, you should check out Live at Central Park and Live at the Gorge.
carter does a 3 minutes drum solo intro to Halloween on the gorge CD that will blow you away.
