Okay, splain something for me:
Hydro is apparently the biggest and baddest stuff out there today, people buy $450,000 houses just to leave them empty while setting up grow operations in the basement, so obviously there's a market for this stuff...
But how does the type of light affect the THC level in pot? Wouldn't the "high" be relatively the same regardless of the growing technique?
I assume hydro just grows 'em bigger and faster right?
And you might have to dumb it down a bit fer this pink lunged dauphin.

Hydro is the best stuff out there. altho some chemo-weed has knocked me on my ass... What you said is half true. Some strains of bud remain the exact same no matter how you grow them. Hydroponics is growing in water. You probably already know this BUT I'll go thru it anyway. Instead of having soil and blah blah, hydroponics is the roots directly in a water solution and frequent aerating of the roots (cuz they need air) whether by misting them or dunking them or whatever, there's several ways to grow hydroponically.
With pot, what gets you high is "the crystals" a dust that covers the buds. I can collect "the crystals" in a coffee grinder over a period of time of grinding up buds and sit down, roll a regular run-of-the-mill cigarette, add the crystals to it and get high. Now with hydroponics, yes, they grow faster and bigger. More production. Speeding up nature to peak efficiency. The crystals accumulate more also. Not sure if this part is all true or not, it's what I've been told by very respectable drug-dealers. Regular pot outdoors (or indoors for that matter) grown in soil, there's wind, the dust falls off, etc. Plus regular pot only accumulates a little bit of crystals.
Now the THC part; *inhales* TetraHydroCannibol is in the weed plant, it gets ya high too. There are two forms I believe, the one that gets ya high and makes ya feel all funny and the other part is the one that gives ya the groggy affects afterwards, it runs its course longer than the first one, so after the "high" is gone, the "low" is still there. It's called C-something, CFG or CLT or something. But despite this fact (whether it's accurate or not) normally regular pot is harvested just before it flowers, the buds yeild seeds and people growing regular "homegrown" pot want the seeds for the next crop. But alot of THC is lost when the seeds form, that's why with "hydro" you'll never find seeds. If you find seeds in your hydro, it's not hydro. Cuz someone going thru all the trouble to grow hydro and with cops and neighbours, they want the best possible dope they can grow.
We should call this thread "Sweet Cheeba 101"
Lance is probably pissed off at me.
As for lighting, there's all kinds of different things people have said, "Oh, 400 watts per every two-foot-square of garden" and some regular bud is just grown outside in the sun. There's periods too. The vegetative state will be something like 16 hours of light and the plant will grow. To induce blooming (AKA bud-formation) you drop the light down to 12 hours. There's a bunch of other stuff, PH, humidity, etc, I won't get into right now. But that's basically it; hydro is better because of the technique in how it's grown. also different strains will generally be better than others.
I'm pretty sure what I have just said is right. If anybody reading this thinks I'm wrong, feel free to post your corrections. Is this all clear? *exhales*
Oh yeah, and female plants have big buds on them whereas male plants don't. I don't even consider it worth growing male plants. I just chuck them. Don't ask me why this difference between the sexes, i have no clue why...

One of the major reasons that hydro is better than outdoor is because of with hydro nutrients are added to the water which the roots are growing in, where with outdoor most of the nutrients are obtained naturally from the soil (mostly because it is harder to get to outdoor plants because they usually have to be planted in the middle of nowhere so they won't be discovered.)
The intensity of the light used in hydro operations also helps them grow better. Hydro plants will get a set amount of light per day (usually 16 hours for growth, 12 for budding like LB said), where outdoor plants get whatever amount of sunlight there is, which can be reduced by clouds, shade from trees, corn, other plants, etc. Therefore, the photosynthesis is more effective and efficient in hydro plants.
A lot of hydro operations also add extra CO2 to the room (which is what plants "breathe" in) to help with the development of the plants.
Most people growing hydro will do so using clones. They will get seeds from a good strain of plants which is known to have high levels of THC (there are actually "seed banks" which you can purchase certain seeds from) and will start the plants. At some point, they will cut the light back so they can sex the plants. The males will be discarded, while the females become "mothers" for the clones. Cloning is kinda complicated, so I won't get into that... but it involves cutting shoots off of the mother and getting those to grow roots and they become their own plants (which are guaranteed to be females.) You want females, because they produce the buds which have the highest THC content of the plant, while males produce pollen sacks. If you don't get rid of the males, they will "impregnate" the females and they will start to develop seeds (then all of their energy goes into producing seeds instead of THC.) If you do find a couple seeds in a bud, it could still be hydro because sometimes females will develop seeds on their own without a male pollenating them (and sometimes you will see a hermaphrodite plant... but I've only seen this in outdoor pot.)
Overall, hydro is better than outdoor because of the amount of care that can be put into them because they are more easily accessible than most outdoor plants.
Between what LB and I have written, you probably all get the idea.

I have bought hydro and stumbled upon some seeds and figured it was just really good bud. I didn't think seeds were found in hydro. I figured dealers were trying to get more buck with a bluff. Thanks, man; It's good to know.

what everyone else said is correct although the potency really only depends on the strain in which you are growing
i could grow a sativa bud for you and you may not feel anything off it while the guy next too you gets really stoned
then i give you a indica and you get so ripped you dont even wanna stand while the other guy dont get much off it
the most potent marijauna plant is the indica
outdoor VS indoor
both can be just as potent if you know how to grow outdoors is usually grow by commerical growers who will grow 1 acre for the year
the seed theory now
jay420 how can a female produce a seed if its not pollinated
does your girlfriend get pregnant without you inpreganting her ?
i think not
the reason for the seeds is hermiaphidites the happen when the female is stressed out alot and produces a male part in the flowering cycle
happens sometimes
overwatering and underwater (thats a whole different story)
thats just my .02

She better not, or it means she's been fucking around
I dunno how a female produces a seed if its not pollinated by a male, but I have seen it happen. I have got hydro buds with a seed or two and I know for a fact that it was hydro because I know the guy that grew it and there weren't any males in the crop.

I completely forgot about Sativa/Indica...
I should add there's also Ruderalis,
But that would probably be like smoking a wicker cabinet.

what happens to create the seed is the female buds will produce a banana looking dick i guess you can call it and that is what pollinates the budding flower to produce the seed
dont get me wrong the banana looking thing doesnt pollinate the whole garden because its not a real male plant so it generally pollinates the bud it grew on
