guess what...?

MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'M GOING TO SEE JUNKHOUSE @ SUMMERFEST LATER THIS MONTH!!!!!!!
i saw Thornley last night, not bad, Junkhouse tonight, True Theories, Beyond Within, Fleshcraft, The Undead, Seethings, The Hollow, Goat Horn, Roses Dead and A Day And A Deathwish tomorrow. ROCK ON!
Anyone heard of the Black Keys? They're two young guys from Akron, Ohio that play the blues - but they do it right. They're very grungy, raw, and honest, and they know what the blues is all about. Its just the guitarist and drummer duo, but they really kick. They're playing Sept. 5 at The Drink here in Vancouver, and Im sooo there.
Going to see Gomez on Oct. 1st.

Should be good.

where are they playing? i've seen them 3 times, and each time gets better..you'll really enjoy yourself..i hope for your sake they pull out the "road to nowhere" cover by the talking heads..they really do it justice
Black Keys are Great!. not as good as the North Mississippi allstars but great nonetheless.

Drive by Truckers in Toronto september 11th
Junkhouse were incredible, their set got cut short a bit due to the noise curfue and whatnot, but they were still the highlight of the weekend nonetheless. True Theories go Sunday kicked off the right way with some of their freash n funky northern hip hop stylings, always a pleasure seeing them rock the house. Standard fair from Beyond Within and Fleshcraft. The Undead were nuts, definately the best death metal act to ever come out of Sudbury, really cool to see people who didn't seem very knowledged or experienced in death (or any kind of) metal enjoying their show. Seethings were really good opening the after party, but holy shit did A Day And A Deathiwh and Roses Dead ever tear it up...one word: HEAVY!!!!!!!!!! The Hollow and Goat Horn couldn't make it.
The Black Keys are great. I go from the White Stripes to the Hip to the Black Keys all day long in my CD player. The first 5 songs on Thickfreakness (is that it?) rule the planet.
vicariousmartyr Wrote:Well....this was my first experience seeing a cover band. I didnt know what to expect. The thing is...they played the music to absolute PERFECTION - but nothing more. There was a severe feeling/emotion deficiency in everything they played. Can you imagine witnessing Stairway to Heaven, one of the most emotionally evoking tunes of all time, something that should bring a tear to my eye, played EXACTLY off the album, but just HEARING it, and nothing more...?

Thing is, I couldnt get past the superficiality of it all. I tried, I failed. Some songs worked, like Rock n Roll, but theres too much substance and emotion behind Zeppelins music that completely eluded me there.

Id say worth seeing for sure if you know what you want out of it (a loud, rock'n, drunken good time). And like I said, They played everything to near perfection, musically. I guess passionate music is more than just PLAYING it.

But hey, thats me!

This is why you simply can't 'cover' the greatest band in the history of mankind!! The best REAL concert I ever have seen to this day (and I have seen literally hundreds) was John Paul Jones (solo). He played bass for about 3 songs (doing JPJ tunes), then played the rest of the show on either pedal steel, keys, mandolin, or the famous triple-neck (6-string, 12-string, and mandolin), covering Zep classics like Going to California, Nobody's Fault but Mine, Black Dog, No Quarter, etc. Everything was instrumental - NO vocals whatsoever. I welled up with tears about ten different times in response to the overwhelming emotional impact. The guy is an absolute God. And since I was so vocally supportive at this gen. admission show, he personally handed me an official JPJ bass pick! I will cherish that forever.....
pumped...going to the back-to-back pearl jam shows in boston...9th row night 1 nad 19th row night 2...its going to be a long month. No time/cash for the hip tour.

Anyone else hitting these shows??
I wish I was hittin' up some Pearl Jam shows...alas...some talented artists are making their way through Guelph in the upcoming months...
Sarah Harmer, River Run Theatre 09.22
The Weakerthans, on campus 10.03
Billy Talent/Metric, Club Denim 10.07

Combined with Das Hips in Cleveland and Detroit, should be an incredible few weeks...

I'm really looking forward to the show. I missed them in Vancouver last time they were there and I really wanted to go then. They're playing at Mac Hall at the UofC here in Calgary. Can't wait. :thumb:

I dunno, I had a great time at the White's show. I had low expectations going in for the cover band, but they were good, played the songs bang on. They played the entire album 2 including Moby Dick and did it really well. They were no Led Zep obviously, but they were some great musicians having a great time playing live music.
