I thought I might fit into #10.
But Virginia to Maine I always considered coastline states.
Never really considered NY that.
Yeah - I know it is. But you never hear anyone going to the beaches of NY.
Always considered NY like Pennsylvania - which is also missing.

Well, there was a lot of smaller states in there so I figured to cut down on space, just stick them all together... who's gonna do this poll up? Any corrections to be made?

I am an American, and I could not even place half of those states where they belong.
08-06-2004, 12:53 PM
Okay, I'll do it up and put it in the Non-Hip Discussion... or should it be in the Forum News Section? Anybody suggestions before I attempt it?

Yes...for regions of the US, I would do this:
- North and East of the line established by Pennsylvania and New Jersey (including those states; just call it "New England")
- East of the Mississippi divide excluding New England
- From the Miss. to the Rockies (AKA "Midwest"
- Rockies to the Pacific (aka "West")
I just think 17 options is too many. We should keep it simple so we have a rough idea how many people are in each "quadrant". And then, I still maintain, still with East, Central and Western Canada. Having any mention of "north" is redundant.

Okay so how about something like 8 - 10 options?
But what about the people who don't know where they would fall in?
Here:
1. New England
2. East of the Mississippi divide excluding New England
3. The Midwest - from the Mississippi to the Rockies
4. The West - Rockies to the Pacific
5. Eastern Canada - Quebec to the Atlantic
6. Central Canada - Manitoba and Ontario
7. Western Canada - From Sask to the Pacific
8. Other
How's that?

I know that the suggestions are piling up, but you could break the States into the following groups, and let the individual decide where they fit best (these designations are often used):
West Coast
Rocky Mountain
Southwest
Plains
Midwest
Gulf
Southeast
New England
I think 11 groupings for the US is too many, but four is definitely not enough.....

I like the idea of at least listing the states beside the groups, so can anybody attempt this? I'm not American so I'm not sure what state is considered what...
1. West Coast (USA)
2. Rocky Mountain (USA)
3. Southwest (USA)
4. Plains (USA)
5. Midwest (USA)
6. Gulf (USA)
7. Southeast (USA)
8. New England (USA)
9. Eastern Canada
10. Central Canada
11. Western Canada

That's much better! The US has so many peopkle that, yeah, four is probably not enough...this is ideal. Not that my opinion means the world, but that's better than 17 options. I could probably tell you what states go where, but I'll leave it to the Americans.
PS - Make "Central Canada" Ontario alone and you've got the comprehensive spectrum of our country. It also acts as a clear dividing line between east and west, lesat anybody should think Quebec is "central".

Now aren't you sorry you asked for opinions!

As soon as an American puts the states in their respective locations, I'll post it. If, by any chance, nobody does, I'll wing it.

I'm just wondering if the total fanz from Ontario will out # the total fanz from everywhere else .....doubt it...I guess I'd be placed in the Western Canada slot eh?
