Quote:"One Night in Copenhagen" depicts a life-changing event endured far away from home.
" "Copenhagen' refers to . . . one of those calls in the night that basically washes out everything," Downey says. "Because you realize that your life is now changed . . . by, let's say a phone call from home, and leave it at that. But it's about that point where you realize your life is now changed, and what do you choose to do with it? I think the song is essentially about sobriety. Drug-induced or otherwise."

its about a night in copanhegan!

Here's something to chew on:
The "Nadir's Fluorescent" from "One Night in Cophenhagen". I thought that this referred to a place in Cophenhagen. However, checking out Google.com shows that there is a:
In Toronto -- in Rosedale -- I checked mappoint.com -- which is where Gordie lives now, isn't it? So the Nadir's Fluorescent could refer to a number of things.
Perhaps there is signage Gordie can see from his house, from the park nearby, et al. Recalling the images of home.
Or perhaps, Gord uses grow lights from "Nadir Fluorsecent Service" for some hydroponics. Better than a "small patch in the middle of a cornfield".
Anybody closer to Toronto and Rosedale fill us in on some details? I am originally from the Toronto are but find myself in the Republic of Korea right now. I think I'm onto something here!
R-O-C-Kin' with the HIP in the R-O-K!

Yes I think that too. But what I picture when I hear the song is getting a phone call that is bad news..but I don't get a death. Anyway this phone call is bad news there for depressing Gord, and making him want to be even more intoxicated.

I was thinking that this song lent credence to the "Gord is Divorced Dammit!" Crusaders who were arguing that point here previously. I see that call from home as one from the wife/girlfriend saying "so long."
Now what do you do? Well, when in Copenhagen...
And I think the Nadir that Gord is refering to is the literal definition of the word: Your lowest point. And it being flourecent just emphasizes how that feeling radiates through your every feeling... whether you like it or not.

That makes sense seeing though I've read how Gord kinda "takes in his surroundings" when writing i.e. "The Golden Rim Motor Inn..." He probably saw the shop, passed it or something and liked how it was laid out and then when whatever had occurred (gf/wife breakup) he remembered it, the "all-time radiating low point"... pretty damn cool.

Didn't they pull the plug on the last show or two of the European tour because of some bad news from home? I kinda think that was the starting point of the song.

Good point. Wales, Cardiff, I believe. Rumour was that Sinclair's mother had passed away. Was that ever confirmed?
