As announced by John Derringer this morning, Kim Mitchell is the new afternoon drive host on Q107. He starts on August 9th.
Should be a wild party!
:jump
why ? are the patio lanterns not working anymore
When I was home last year, I believe I heard him on Mojo as a panelist in the afternoon. He was actually pretty entertaining. Surprised the hell out of me.
Good luck Kim, have a soda on me.
Was that the "BIG ANNOUNCEMENT" they've been talking about for weeks? Damn...what a let down.

My brother in law bought some tiki patio lanterns from Wal-mart and whenever we turn them on we sing the song
Don't even start with any talk about let downs and Kim Mitchell...although I did go to the show, and he wasn't all that bad(I was drunk). He doesn't have any hair anymore...none at all.
Would this be a record for biggest career freefall not counting death? This is Fleury-esque without the booze and perpetual whining about how tough life is.

Acutally I don't see what the big deal is, you took what I said wrong..but maybe if you read it again..
I ment Q said they had a big announcement...and it's really not that big of a deal..
Sad, just sad. That washed up has been plays 3-4 free shows around here every year and nobody shows up. At least he got a paying gig.
"...Who was gonna be who would be the first to dance? Who was gonna be who would be the first to kiss? Under those patio lanterns..."
DAMN I WANT AN O.P.P. HAT!!
Perhaps you didn't understand what I meant...Kim Mitchell played here a couple of weeks ago. The local radio station pumped us for weeks before telling us who the big band would be. They said it would attract thousands of people to this area, yada yada yada. I wasn't expecting the Hip, but they were starting to tour, and you just never know. The radio even had a vote to see who we'd like to see the most. Some of the names were: Barenaked Ladies, Rush, Blue Rodeo, Guess Who, and yes, even The Hip. But, in the end, the big surprise was: KIM MITCHELL. Seems to me I've told this story before.
Well, I for one am really excited about this!! I love Kim Mitchell!! They should consider syndication of Kim Mitchell's afternoon radio across Canada - and then, hopefully, get it syndicated in the US as well. Now there's a perfect way to promote Canadian music.

what the hell are you smoking to think that kim mitchell is just going to play canadian music . plus why would it be syndicated in the u.s.
the only reason the canadian radio stations play canadian music is it is manditory by the candian goverment
Well, it's not that that I think Kim Mitchell would just play Canadian music - but Canadian radio stations are, by law, required to play 35% Canadian content - so I'm sure he'll playing a lot of stuff that much of the US has never heard of. I was thinking that since Kim Mitchell is popular - it will probably only be a matter of time because his show is syndicated across Canada. Then maybe there'll be demand for syndication in the US, as well. Yeah, I suppose it's maybe wishful thinking - but look at Tim Hortons, they're starting to catch on in the US. I just think that it's time for Corperate Canada to work on promoting their business into the US - instead of complaining about too many McDonald's in Canada. I mean - hello!! - there would not be so many McDonald's in Canada if many Canadians weren't eating at McDonald's, would there?
P.S. Let's not forget that Kim Mitchell had moderate success in the US, as well.

April Wino, I love how positive you are, but I'm going to make a prediction that I know will be true. There is no way Kim Mitchell will get syndicated across Canada. No way. And he's not going to be playing obscure Canadian music either. Since he'll be on for the drive-home slot he's going to have to play what people want to hear when listening to a classic rock station. But I'm sure he's going to have great stories about touring with Triumph and the Spoons. Romantic Traffic indeed.
