For all Canadians going to the show on Friday.....it's been posted a few times...leave early. I went to see 3 Doors Down yesterday. Left Georgetown at 2:00 pm.....got to my seat at 7:30pm.
damn..where is georgetown??? How long was the wait at the boarder???

Same mess coming home??
There was an article in the Buffalo News today about border wait times yesterday (Sunday) - being 2 to 3 hours at Peace Bridge (into the US), and 4 hours at Queenston-Lewiston.

I would leave early, the line-ups into the US on a Friday afternoon are always busy to begin with...but especially for a concert or sporting event. IF you can take a half day off work and head out early, I'd recommend it highly!
Georgetown is 10 minutes north of Mississauga.....Coming home was a breeze....although it was 1:00 am this morning. It took 3 hours at Queenston/Lewiston and another hour for the security search at Darien Lake.
Um, what security search?
An hour?
To get in with tix?
We went in through the concert entrance. If you pay an extra $12 you can go in through the park entrance...I think??
Sorry, I hit send before I finished my reply. It took about an hour, with tickets, to get in through the concert entrance. Well worth the $12 extra to enter through the park.

This does not surprise me...the border crossing time, that is. I'm not sure what the security search lines will be like. THANKFULLY we have VIP passes, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Maybe some fellow Hipbasers and myself should PM to try and arrange to meet up before the show near the VIP entrance...we could get you in as that area is pretty lax if you are with someone with a pass.
Darren, Brendan, Josh,

Judging by this, I think we should leave Guelph, no later than 2:30ish.

I'd say about an hour to get to the border, 2 hours to get through and another 45 minutes to an hour to get to Darien Lake. This would get us there about 6:30 and in line at the gate for close to an hour. Might be worth it to enter through the park for additional 12 bucks.

What do you think?

I work at Darien, as a proofer for alcohol (giving wristbands, ect.), which always seem to tick people off...so, get your wristband before you get in the beer lines, or else you'll do double waiting. If you plan on drinking bring your license or some form of ID, they are strict on this too. Last night for Puddle of Mudd/3 Doors Down/Nickelback there were 12,000 tickets sold in advance with about 3-4,000 additionally with walkups/day of show sales, promotions etc. The place was swamped with people.

Here's the good news/bad news...I was told yesterday by one of my bosses that only 5,000 tickets were sold so far for the Hip (ouch). Good news = shorter lines, bad news = poor sales won't go over well with them and coming back in the future. I'm sure there will be a lot more come show time, as usual...I can't remember a Hip show with a poor turnout. Kiss/Poison sold 7,000 prior to the show. DMB sold over 20,000...c'mon now.

I would avoid Queenston-Lewiston because of the lack of lanes. Go either Rainbow through Niagara Falls or Peace Bridge. Leave plenty early if at all possible. Better to be there early than somehow miss the opening tune.

As far as spending an extra 12 to come in through the park I don't think it will be necessary. Just try to get to the park early, get parked and situated by 6 and there should be no trouble. Anything after 6 is a gamble.

I hope to have the campsite set up by 2 so the party can start early. Lot #751 if anybody wants to come say hello.

Good luck to all those making the trip. Hope everything works for the best.

I would avoid the Rainbow Bridge...even though there are plenty of lanes, it's always slamming now because of the casinos on both sides of the borders. Peace Bridge I'd say is your best bet.
It saves a lot of highway time by taking the queenston/lewiston bridge. I also use a short cut to get ot the park. Concert parking is free!

Short cut:

Exit NYS thruway at exit 48A.

Head south on Route 77.

now you can continue south on 77 and hit Darien Lake, but here is a faster route:

At the first light (Main st. Route 5) turn left (east).
Make the 1st right (Boyce Road)
Take Boyce Rd. to the end.
Turn left on Route 33
Make a quick right on Colby Rd.
Take Colby Rd. to Sumner Road
Right on Sumner to Route 77
Right on 77 and Darien Lake entrance is right there.

This saves tons of time because Route 77 always is backed up.
I'm not familiar with Route numbers, but we always take Broadway out from Depew all the way down. Literally NO ONE takes that route...so maybe I can suggest if you're local or know where Broadway is, take that route. Avoid the I-90 at all costs, it'll be slammin' with cars.
Broadway is Route 20, that is quick if you're coming from the south.
I must have been lucky, because i went friday, and it took me 30mins to cross........and on the way back it took us roughly 40mins......
