Except for We'll Go Too in Wasaga does anyone else think that the setlists have been pretty boring so far? They're basically sticking to the same set and alternating a couple of songs, ie. Fully, Nautical. There hasn't been the same level of setlist shakeups as we had on any of the past tours yet. Anyone else think it's strange that we've yet to hear IOD, DD, Greasy, Scared, Thugs, Locked, Long Time, Pistols, 50MC, Gift, Escape, Chagrin, Fever and so on. All of these were played on the IVL tour and the only song that's been played on this tour that wasn't played on the last one is We'll Go Too.... Also think it's too bad the only songs from IVL so far are Silver Jet and Good Life.
Not really complaining I know there's only been 4 shows (not counting the club dates), and I realise that this isn't the full tour yet and hopefully they'll mix things up a bit more once that starts in the fall.

well, you know they'd go heavy on the new album, which is good. there catalog is getting pretty thick and not everyone is going to be satisfied. i think the setlists have been pretty good so far but i'd probably pull "weaken" and "NOIS" and add more obscure tunes.
the gems that'll make you grab your forehead and make you scream they haven't played that in the last 3 tours!! but we'll go too will be one of those if they play it at darien.
I have no problem at all with them playing 9-10 songs a night from the new album, just that the songs from previous albums they have been playing have been almost the same every night.

They havent played that many shows yet. I am sure once the fall tour kicks off, the setlists will start being different.
I feel the exact same way. Look at the setlists from the Henhouse and Phantom Power Canadian arena tours. They went heavy on both albums, but threw in lots of different songs every night. I thought the IVL setlists were pretty boring as well.
...this is an opinion of a spoiled Pearl jam fan.
Well for the most part they have been festival shows except the small private radio gigs- So you have to expect to hear the radio hits thrown in with new songs at these shows. I think they will throw in alot more obscure songs in the tour in the fall- to change things up.
I've been quite pleased so far to be quite honest. I've heard the new songs I've wanted to hear, and the old songs are sounding as great as ever. The band's energy has been through the roof as well. I would like to hear songs like 50MC again soon, but I'm not going to complain... for now.
I'll have to agree. I was at Bayfest last night and I'll admit the show was a lot better than the show they played here two years ago. .
The thing is. . I absolutely loved every song they played off the new album. . if they would have played the entire thing I would have been happy. I wish they didn't pass up Makeshift we are, and Are We Family. . big disappointment. . but of course you can't please everybody. . I'm glad they played eight songs off the new album.
As far as the rest of the songs go. . with so little room left in the setlist they probably didn't want to go too obscure so I understand playing the big hits. . but honestly it did seem like they were just pulling off the singles from each album. . I'm not sure exactly what the singles were from each album but I'm going to assume many of these were:
Grace Too
Bobcaygeon
Poets
Fireworks
New Orleans is Sinking
Music at Work
Courage
Ahead by a Century
Wheat Kings
Little Bones
Blow at High Dough
These are great songs. . but so oversaturated I have to be honest I was kind of bored hearing some of them. . I wanted to hear some more In Violet Light (other than Silver Jet). . maybe some Lake Fever, or Tiger the Lion, Thompson Girl would have floored me. . Something On. . .so many underrated songs didn't see the light of day.
Oh don't forget It's a Good Life
At the Calgary club show, we got Looking for a Place to Happen, which was amazing. Other than that, yeah, I'd have to agree the setlists have been pretty standard so far.
Are we looking for things to complain about? The band sounds tighter than ever. Gord is super-animated. The new songs translate well into the live setting.
I've seen them twice this summer, met some great new friends, enjoyed the shows with old friends, and loved every minute of it!
Let's be happy that the band continues to put out great music and tour regularly.
I think the "evening with" tour retired most of my favourite songs. I don't think they realize that a song rotation keeps everything fresh and new, even if the song is 3 albums old (escape, daddy, stay, yawning).
As much as i love the hip, I have come to terms that they are on the downward slide. Gord could use a lyric book on stage by the way, I think the reason they stray from being diverse on their tours is that gord can't remember what he wrote yesterday let alone in the mid 90's.........kinda sad in a way, they lost their edge. Thanks for lettin me vent, good topic!

With such a huge back catalogue, I guess we kind of expect them to break out some different songs once in a while. At the most it's a minor complaint. Perhaps those of us who have seen them 20-plus times have been spoiled over the years. I definitely agree that the band is sounding great right now, and I'm sure the setlists will get a little more adventurous once a full tour starts.
i dont agree that they are on the downslide now...the new album will rank right up there in a couple of years and they sound better than ever
To reply to a couple people. . I'm happy with the show. . I just wish I could hear a little more variety. . what they played was played well...
but whoever it was who said something about lyrics brings up a very good point. . gordies lyrics are probably about the hardest to remember there is.
