Just wondering if anyone knows roughly when Gord started playing guitar live?? I know on Heksenketel (sp?) he doesn't, so I guess it must have been sometime after 93.
Also, I know someone said that he only started playing guitar on Springtime recently (was it 2002?), are there any other songs that he has only just started to play guitar for? Gift Shop maybe?

If memory serves me correctly he did on the Phantom Power tour. I don't recall him playing guitar on the Trouble at the Henhouse tour or any tour previous to that.
First tour he ever played guitar on was Day For Night. He played on Dare Devil for sure, and maybe Scared. I know on the album you can hear his strumming on DD.
NOIS and Wheat Kings are the only pre-Day For Night material Gord plays guitar on live.

Live or on the Album? I could swear I don't remember him ever playing guitar on Wheat Kings during the DFN tour or on the Fully tour. In fact I don't remember him playing guitar for any songs on those tours....but I have been wrong before.
Now if he played guitar for those songs on the album....that I wouldn't argue with.
The first time I recall seeing Gord hold a guitar was in the ABAC video. That's the best I can do, as my first show was the Ottawa stop on the PP tour.
This is interesting now that I think about it...
I first saw them in April '93 in Tucson, AZ about a week before their return to the Roxy in LA (and about 3 months before Heksenketel was recorded). It was the FC Tour and he was not playing guitar at that time.
Then I saw them about 15 months later in Phoenix and Tucson in July '94 (I have never seen these shows listed anywhere). It was a post FC pre DFN show, but they played at least 1/2 of DFN. I remember Grace, Fire in the Hole, Thugs, Nautical Disaster, and Imposibilium for sure. And I'm 99% sure he didn't play guitar at either show.
Finally, I saw them next in May '95 in Tucson and LA and he was playing guitar at both shows. Although Hicups/Daredevil sounded amazing, it was a let down to see him "anchored" to the microphone while playing the guitar.
So sometime between July '94 and the start of the full DFN tour he started playing.
I saw him strumming away on 'Daredevil' during the Montreal stop of the DFN tour. December '94, if memory serves. I remember it clearly, though, because I was surprised and paid attention...he played, at most, two chords the whole time.
I always preferred the unmoored, guitar-less Downie. But hey, it's his show, he can do what he likes.
Is this his guitar strumming alone at the very end of 'Gus?' I love that bit.

During the Henhouse tour Gord added guitar to NOIS, Wheat Kings, Daredevil and Scared plus a bunch of Henhouse tunes.

Say, my memory of that show is that it was about -40000 degrees in a patented Montreal snowstorm. People were throwing winter coats at the band (and being given the finger in reply), then racing out into the night shirtless!!
Am I on target, or confusing that with some other gig?
^ Yes, that was it. It was freezing outside and the floor was general admission, coats were flying. I was first row in the stands so I had a great view. I can still remember the whole floor bouncing in unison to IOD (3rd song), that was so awesome.
He played guitar during We'll Go Too at Wasaga. Not much really, but still it was there.

I agree... I like Gordie better sans guitar. At this year's Canada Day show, his cord wasn't working and the cowboy roadie kept trying to fix it. When it was working 'n when it wasn't working, the sound barely changed. I guess it's just a personal preference for Gordie too... whatever can help him get into the song.
