I am a huge Hip & Gordie fan, I finally got a chat in with him at the Hard Rock before the gig at club 279. Unfortunately, in my opinion, he wasn't meant to sing the anthem! I think he's been belting it out so much, his chords are hurtin? I did not care for his version. It's too bad, thought it was gonna be amazing. Would love to hear everyone else's honest opinion, don't be biased. I want to know if it's me. I look forward to a couple more listens tomorrow, as it's late, so final verdict not sealed yet, but the outlook is not good!

I thought he did a pretty good job except for the "thee" part which kind of seemed to fade. Now, I don't know if it was intentional or not but he did mess up the lyrics! Instead of "in all thy son's command" he said "in all OUR son's command". He couldn't hold the note at the end but that's to be expected. Hey, it was no worse than Fantasia.

I wouldnt think mlb.com archived the anthem gratts. I think you had to hear it live at the time. There is no mention at this point of any replay of the game.

It's only archived at 32kbps, but you get the general idea...all in all, it's actually not as bad as some have made out - like all things TTH, I'm sure with repeated listens it will grow on me... :lol: :lol:

So here I am telling all my friends and co-worrkers that Gord is going to be on FOX-TV for the All-Star game. As many of you know already, FOX (or shall I say FAUX) went into an extended commercial break -- covering the singing of the Canadian Anthem. Actually I suprised that FAUX carried the introduction of players from the Canadian teams. Not to drag politics into this whole ordeal, my guess it was FAUX's gesture to "the country that didn't follow us into GW's tantrum overseas." And then to top it off the flag-waving network brings out it's own mass media product to sing a torturous version of the Star Spangled Banner - cripes! I've heard better in Karaoke bars.
To push my Boycott Faux one step farther -- A good friend of mine works master controll at a local FOX affiliate. The netowrk sent down the structure for the night's commerial breaks before the game AND THEN CHANGED IT during the pre-game.... hmmm, my spider-senses tell me this was intentionally done to make sure the Canadian anthem was not heard in the states.
As far as the archived MLB audio... yeah it's low bit, but at least it's there. Some have said it wasn't Mr. Downie's best moment. Even with the lo-fi version you can still tell it was done with conviction as well as humility. My hat's off to him for accepting the opportunity.
Am I just totally missing the link? On the MLB site, all I can find is clips of the various players commenting on this and that...where is the pre-game and/or full broadcast?

I think it would have been perfect if only they announced that he was a rock star... I can picture him standing their with his grunge face on belting out the lyrics. Everyone in that stadium with the exception of maybe a dozen people knew he was, and the clueless sat there in anticipation of a Canadian Pop-Radio or Opera star... it didn't gel all that well in that sense, but I'd prefer Gord and his rusky rendition than Celine Dion or Ryan Malcolm...
Did anyone else notice that he's wearing that same white long sleeve shirt again?! Is that one of only a couple shirts he always packs in the suitcase? Someone PLEASE take him shopping.
Also, I'm sure people were wondering who "GORD DOWNIE" was when he was announced. Who knows, he could have been a radio contest winner, a Houston Idol winner, a freakin' bum off the street...no one down there knows who Gord Downie is. They could have at least said he was from the legendary Canadian rock band, The Tragically Hip.
