Ack! No. Bad.
If you're worried about not being able to read FLAC files then you can get a plugin for WinAmp to play them. What do you normally use to play music? There's probably a plugin available for it.
If you really want to you can convert the files yourself. There is a decoder in the FLAC package available here: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html">http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html</a><!-- m -->.
There's a thread under "Download & Trading Central" that has more info on FLAC.
Anyway I just think it would be better if there was only one copy floating around out there, then everyone who gets it knows they're getting the original.
And please don't distribute MP3s. The quality is low enough as it is, we don't need it knocked down another notch.
Gus-Thanks for the info. Please don't think I'm out to distribute poor versions of your recordings, I am as grateful as the rest of the 'base that you're distributing this music. Laziness, I guess that's all it is. I don't have a lot of time online everyday (Whining, whining) nor do I understand the bit torrent system. Maybe you could PM me and we could set something up. Thanks...

Why are mp3s so bad? can someone explain it to me in layman terms.

They cut out the hi's and lo's, compressing what's left down to nothing.

So you mean to say the hi and low sounds from the audio itself? Still kind of confused here.
Hey PRZ, that's how it was explained to me using layman's terms. I'm assuming yes, from the audio itself. All I know is that the resulting files sound like crap.
Well MP3s will filter sounds that the average person cannot hear. For example, sounds that dogs and another animals can hear. This isn't so much of a problem in my opinion. The problem is when people convert the MP3s into an audio CD to play on you standard CD player. Then the audio CD is converted back into MP3s. When this process is repeated many times the song sounds like crap. As well MP3s can be butchered so much easier. For example ever download a MP3 from the net and have it be another song? Or the MP3 has clicks and pops or is cut? FLAC or SHN files have an option where you can check if the file is complete and not corrupt.

BitTorrent is pretty easy to use. I already wrote something to help people out. Here's a link to the forum thread: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://forum.hipbase.com/viewtopic.php?t=2628">http://forum.hipbase.com/viewtopic.php?t=2628</a><!-- m -->
And here's a little bit on FLAC: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://forum.hipbase.com/viewtopic.php?t=2799">http://forum.hipbase.com/viewtopic.php?t=2799</a><!-- m -->
Using BitTorrent will probably cut down on how much time you spend online since you're downloading from many people at the same time so you can get really good speeds. And FLAC has really good compression, so the songs are only about twice the size of MP3 but without any of the quality loss.
Awesome job getting this out. Anybody willing to trade or b&p this show for me? My list is in my signature.
Thanks,
Matt

Yep. Can do.
The tracker for the torrent of this show is having problems. So if anyone can't connect or their download is stalled please be patient, hopefully they'll have this issue resolved soon.
I'll post another message as soon as things are fixed.
I'm a big retard. I mislabeled 3 of the tracks. Track 2 should be "Summer's Killing Us", "At The Hundredth Meridian" should be track 13 not track 14, and "Are We Family" should be track 14 instead of 13.
The set list posted in the forum and the set list included in the torrent are correct.
Sorry about the mixup.
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.sharingthegroove.org/">http://www.sharingthegroove.org/</a><!-- m --> is down. how about posting mirror link for the torrent
nevermind - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://66.90.75.92/suprnova//torrents/2086/The%20Tragically%20Hip%20-%20New%20City%20Likwid%20Lounge%20Edmonton%202004-06-22.torrent">http://66.90.75.92/suprnova//torrents/2 ... 22.torrent</a><!-- m -->
The torrent tracker at sharing the groove is back up so if anyone was waiting to try and download it try now.
Thanks for taping. I kept my window open for a good long time after downloading. I have the quality listed as a B on my db.etree list but after hearing the crowd singing on We'll Go Too, I just might have to bump it up. I really want to hear that song this year.
Also, was Gord singing apart of "Songwriter's Cabal" at the end of We'll Go Too? Or am I imagining things?
Cheers
Pat
