You're Everywhere = best
I definitely haven't been this excited (for lack of a better word) over an album in a long time. I simply can't stop listening to this cd. However, if I had to pick a "least favourite" song on the album, I'd have to go with You're Everywhere. It was an absolutely amazing song to hear live, especially with the lap steel. I enjoy the album cut, just less than the other tracks on the album.
I'd say (right now -- will probably change tomorrow, next week and in perpetuity):

1. Gus
2. You Are Everywhere
3. The Heart of the Melt
4. Vaccination Scar
5. One Night in Copenhagen
6. Goodnight Josephine
7. Are We Family
8. Heaven is a Better Place Today
9. As Makeshift As We Are
10. If New Orleans Is Beat
11. It Can't Be Nashville Any Night
12. Mean Streak
13. Summer's Killing Us

I don't dislike any of them (and, truth to tell, dislike nothing they've done -- although Werewolf, Rules and Apartment Song occasionally make me hit skip), but I find it curious that my least favorite song on the album is the first single.
This is absolutely unbelievable for me. So far all these are the only songs have NOT been voted at peoples least favorites in this thread, and it's not even 3 full pages yet:

- Heaven Is A Better Place Today
- Gus
- It Can't be Nashville...
- Goodnight Josephine

That's it. Every other song, someone thinks it is the worst. Amazing. That just goes to show how diverse Hip fans can be.
mean streak
new orleans is beat
we are family

those are the ones i really don't like
I've listened to the album 50+ times and I love them all except... I can't stand 'Copenhagen'. It bores me to death...
The only part that bugs me about Summer's Killing Us is that exact line: "Summer's Killing Us!!!"...much like Thomspon Girl it sounds like Gord can't hit high notes.

Other than that I'm not a huge fan of Are We Family.
I really think Meanstreak and Makeshift are two of their weaker songs on the album.
Man am I surprised to hear so many people not liking Makeshift...it is now in my top 10 all time...right from the first time I heard it, something just hit me, much the same as Nautical, and whenever it comes up in the list I jam the volume and hit repeat for at least 2 rounds....it's a classic...give it time it'll grow on ya like a bad fungus from the Ganges!!!

Unfortunately Copenhagen doesn't do it for me...however I am not averse to giving it a few more open-minded listens...long live the Hip...Canada's greatest band of all time.

Goulet!!!
-you're as quiet as a fish, I only sing for the whole sea-
Makeshift kicks ass!!! I cannot BELIEVE that it wasn't mooted for a single. I think it might have been the one to crack the American nut. That chorus and final verse are terrific.

Count me with the 'Copenhagen'-haters. And while I think that, individually, they work, I don't like the sequencing that places 'Nashville' and 'New Orleans' side by side. I always skip past one or the other, depending on my mood.

These, along with 'Heaven,' are my only beefs.
Mean Streak is one of my favs. Actually it is one of my favs with a hitch. I love the first half, but it seems to crumble after the first mionute or so. I love the guitar work, and Johnny's progressively harder drum beat. But everything changes soon thereafter.

So Mean Streak is my favorite half of a song.
VS mainly because right after Gus it's just a such a weird change and it doesn't entirely fit the flow of the album. It's a great song alone but in this album it just seems out of place, very different feel.

IMHO would have been a better opener.
I am glad to see everybody pretty much is loving this album as much as I do. It took a few listens but every song except "Nashville" has grown on me.

As always, live at Darien lake will shed new light on this album and just how truly great these songs are.

"Nashville" is the low point. With its lalas whoas and yeahs?

..to me that MAKES the song...he's feelin' it man...stretching out...i love it..sounds so nice on the radio mixed in between all the other crap out there!!! i think the strain in his voice, sums up the lyrics....
