You can look in almost any discussion in any thread...and you'll find people that for example rank In Violet Light their least favourite album. . and others who rank it their favourite album. .
I've read people say Summer is Killing Us is an awful song, and others who say it is an amazing song.
This applies for every song and album they've done. The Hip hold such a variety of emotion, and moods through their music. . their is something for everyone. With some bands. . it can be agreed by nearly an entire fanbase that a specific album is garbage. . with The Hip it isn't so clear. . each song, and each album seems to say something. . it just depends on who receives the message.
My personal favourite albums are TATH, PP, IVL, and RA. . . in the greatest album thread...the two top I believe are Fully Completely, and Day for Night. . not even in my top four..although well done

Very well put. The Hip do tend to touch so many people for so many different reasons. It is nice to see such a diversity in the music and the fans. And despite how the polls may end up, there are probably very few fans who actually dislike any album. Some have to end up at the bottom of ranked list, but usually with a disclaimer, that the album is great, just not as quite as good as...
Just like how the songs can have many different meanings for many different people, the band really is everybody's band. Whether it's the lyrics, the guitars, the stage show, the energy, the rock steady singles, the personal love of seldom heard tracks or an amalgam of it all...
Different strokes for different folks, but in the end: everybody's band.
And it's THAT which sets them apart form the pop acts. Uniform appeal gets old as soon as the masses find some other uniform appeal.
These guys will be fresh and vibrant for a long time ot come.

They haven't? What CD's have you been listening to? I think they've changed quite a bit. More diverse in their style, song writing and sound. Gord Sinclair even said it in an article I read in today's newspaper about the new album.

If they haven't changed, why do people hate some of their stuff and love some of their stuff since 1992? If they were the same, people would either hate everything or love everything.

The Tragically Hip have stayed The Tragically Hip.
Their music has changed and, with time, they too have changed.
But they haven't changed members.
They've stayed the same genre (I hate genres...)
The music has evolved but they're still the same people.

I still personally believe that The Hip haven't really changed thier style or themselves as a band in a long time. Their music just hasn't evolved enough.

But they haven't.
To me, yes their music has changed, but the biggest change was Gord himself.
Gord used to freak out and sing quite aggressivley in their early stuff which was actually one of my biggest reasons for liking the band so much. There was so much energy in his vocals. Now that he has "matured" I suppose, his singing is not as powerful. However, he is still an amazing singer and I also love his more mellow singing too.
As far as the music goes, it has become more experimental and has drifted form the more blues-rock sound they used to have. However this new album takes them back to their more bluesy roots a little bit.
My point here really was not to complain, it was to merley state what I think has been the Hip's 2 biggest changes over the years.
