personally, i'm glad we haven't seen one yet..just wondering your thoughts on what would be included..would there be "bonus tracks"? would it be their best selling cd in years? or perhaps ever? and what would be some cool names for the cd as opposed to the generic greatest hits? (which we know they wouldn't use...)

I don't think a greatest hits cd would work too well...each album of the hip kinda has a specific feel to it...a collection of songs just wouldnt work too well...
a rarities cd though..yup. .

I think you have just proven the point that if the Hip were to put out a GH disc, it would be disappointing (especially to the die-hards). How do you pick so few songs when there are so many good ones? I myself have made my own mix cds and ended up frustrated for leaving this and that off of it. Let's just face it, Bruce McCulloch is right.

A greatest hits CD isn't for us hardcore fans. It's for people who are fairly new to the Hip. It would be a great way to promote themselves though. If they make one, I bet it will just be the singles that were the most popular on the radio.
...of course if they threw in 1 or 2 unreleased tracks, we'd all buy it too!

What we need is a dvd and some unreleased tracks
Two things:
1) A local HMV has been in the practice of placing little anouncemnet cards in the sections for artists - advertisinfg upcoming releases. For a couple of months now they have had two filed under Hip, "New Album-June 2004" and "Greatest Hits-Sep. 2004". I think it's kinda cool that they do this but obviously it is being done by an eager staff member and cannot be taken as 100% correct. Still, There is a remote chance that someone had an inside scoop, and mabey there is one coming soon, however September seems to soon after the release of IBE, and therefore unlikely.
2) If it came to light, here's my stab at the probable tracklist, keeping to the 18 track limit. (This is not my choices for such a collection, but rather my prediction of what would be on such a CD)

If a hip cd came out. . with nothing but greatest hits..no dvd...no b sides or anything. . would you actually buy it?
I personally would think it a waste of money. Buying it for the sake of having all hip releases seems kinda meaningless.
I agree. It is a waste. We've heard every one of the what would be considered"greatest hits" over and over and over again that I don't even consider them that great anymore.
