Without question, the most important election of the year!

Pick one candidate to be Prime Minister of the Hipbase. Here are the candidates and their platforms:

The Right Honourable Gordon Downie, Toronto. (Incumbent)

- More concerned with "grass" than the Green party could ever be...
- Increased federal funding to cities to support much needed finger wigglin' infastructure programs.
- Supports affordable housing developments near train tracks.

Honourable Paul Langlois, Kingston. Leader of the opposition.

- Would mandate elementary school program teaching kids how to dangle cigarettes from lips without ever missing a drag.
- Supports Supreme Court justices doing away with silly wigs and actually growing big fluffy hair.
- Would do away with seat-belt laws to allow for easier mobility for shooters ridin' shotgun.
-Would make golf a national sport along with hockey and lacrosse.

Honourable Gordon Sinclair, Kingston.

- Former cabinet minister in Mr. Downie's government. Feels that perhaps Mr. Downie relies a little too much on the "Hippie Lettuce." Often helped the incumbent with forgotten lines during long speeches. Crossed the floor to support Mr. Langlois' golf initiatives.
- Has not ruled out a co-alition with Mr. Downie if he can't win a majority.
- Centrist position appeals to his... wait for it... core bass of support. *rimshot*

Jonathan Fay, Kingston.

- Supports beefing up military spending. Often accused of "beating the drums of war." (Yeah, that one was pretty lame... but it's late)
- You think Clinton, Kennedy and Trudeau landed some tail? If elected, all female voters eligible for personal "filibuster" with Mr. Fay.
- He won't shake yer hand, so don't even ask. He might kiss your baby... especially if it's his. (See Above.)

Robert Baker, Mayberry.

- Supports more fun and less Wang Chung.
- Hair extensions for all Hipbasers who are not fortunate enough to have "known the joy of whippin' it around on a riff."
- Will cut taxes on everything with strings... so if you're a tennis lovin, banjo playin, bean growin, owner of a footbal team (Ya might have to think about THAT terrible pun...) Bobby's your candidate.

And remember kids... as in all democracies, vote now and vote often! Our future depends on it!!
$h!t Stephen!
How long did you think about this one?

As you can see from the terrible puns... about 30 seconds. Glad folks are enjoying it.

Polls will close, Friday June 25. It's time to choose YOUR Hipbase!!
I vote for Mr. Sinclair.
He has been the unofficial voice of the group for years.
And he knows how to consistently put an agenda (setlist) together.

Also, How many people can keep a group working together and most importantly keep the group happy for 20 or so years.

And everyone knows - the bass is the leader. The heartbeat of the people (music).
I vote Rob...he's just the most hysterical person I've talked to in my life. We need the country run in this manner! Smile
Did Mr. Fay sleep with an intern or something? No votes?

Hey, it helped Bubba in '96... Maybe Johnny needs a scandal. It would appear that Gord S' recent hole-in-one has swayed some votes in his favour.

But Mr. Langois is still talking majority...
Steve, this is hilarious! Nice work! I always like to vote for the quiet unassuming guy, so my vote goes to Paul. The most underrated member of the The Tragically Hip. He's quiet, but he'd get the job done, and he'd get it done properly.

Is it June 29th yet??
Very creative topic....great imagination

My vote is in... 8)
love how Mr. Fay has one measly vote..just goes to show you cant buy yourself love...or votes! He must have stumbled across this topic and voted for himself:lol:
Two Days to go... It's looking like a Downie minority.
With a slim plurality of votes, Gordon Downie has won a minority government and a second term as Prime Minister of the Hipbase.

Reached while campaigning in Edmonton last night, Mr. Downie had this to say:

"Well, it's just kinda... ya know... um... I take great pride... um, it... it seems to please, so it pleases me ya know..." Mr. Downie said with a smirk. "I just wanna keep on doing what I was doing, nothing fancy, nothing fruitless... more substance than seance I hope... uhhh... I don't know if that answers your question... but yeah, feels alright I guess. Nothing tastes better than win'n."

It is not clear whether Mr. Downie will form a formal alliance with either Mr. Langois or Mr. Baker, his two chief rivals during the campaign, however key advisers to all three men are scheduled to meet at Toronto's Mod club on Wednesday.

"We're gunna take her one baby step at a time," said the Prime Minster of his new Hipbase arrangement. "When the time comes to balance power... um... I guess we'll drive off that bridge when we come to it."

The Prime Minister then tucked his victory speech under his tuque, ducked into a bar, picked up a guitar, and continued spreading the word.

Too much time on my hands...
