I thought by devine right ws pretty good live...saw them at three hip shows on that tour.

BUT, I would have to vote for another evening with...
im well aware sam roberts is opening the u.s. dates it is pretty much 100% that he will not be opening in canada since he opened there last tour up here.

my top 3 openers have not changed

constantines
weakerthans
brokensocialscene
I personally thought Joel Plaskett emergency from the Canada Day Show was very good
the trews or thornley
Thornley is ok live, By Divine Right are pretty good, Sam Roberts is kick ass...but the best choice would obviously have to be...

JUNKHOUSE!

Wow, I didn't even think about that one. I only assumed that since he was opening the US dates, he would be continuing on through the Canadian ones as well.

I like the idea of having 2 openers, some localish band that would benefit from the Hip's exposure, then Sam, then the Hip!
Joel Plaskett is wicked....I lived in Halifax for 4 years and have seen my fair share of him, he's great.

Are THE SMUGGLERS from Vancouver still together/around??

How about Matt Mays? I still haven't had the chance to see him, even though I live in Halifax, though I hear it's a great mellow-rock show that sounds ideal for setting up the Hip's more energetic performance...
Joel Plaskett is a must...Pick up his "Truthfully, Truthfully" album and you'll see why.
I heard some of Matt Mays. It's obvious that he's influenced heavily by Neil Young. I've heard good things about his live show and wouldn't mind seeing him. I don't know if the guys in The Hip have heard much of him though. Usually they pick a band that they are fans of and friends with don't they? I'm anxious to find out who it will be!
How about no openers and the Hip do an Evening With... again.

Nick
The Hip are definitely aware of Matt Mays and El Torpedo, as they are friends with Sam and the boys, and have played with them many times. If the Hip have a say in it, I'm sure we'll enjoy whoever it is. Sam Roberts is too big in Canada to be an opening act on a major tour, and rightly so. My vote is 100% behind Plaskett. Constantines and BSS wouldn't be a good fit, in my opinion. Weakerthans would definitely work, as would Matt Mays. Here's hoping...

I say Spades...worked well in Sarnia...were there in Kingston...are friends of the band...have CD recently recorded at the Bathouse...just depends on who makes the call.

no kidding. that would be amazing!

elliott brood would fantastic, too, but i don't know how well stephen's suitcases and other percussion would stand up to constant touring.

greg macpherson would be superb, too.
