Left-wingers unite! I was thrilled to discover this site, <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.stephenharpersaid.ca">www.stephenharpersaid.ca</a><!-- w --> , on a Liberal website. It's chock full of reasons to fear and distrust the man in question (if those creepy eyes don't do it for ya!).
But all levity and humour at another's expense aside, I am glad to see the Liberal party was not afraid to wade into muddy waters. The staunchest, most old-world an d old-school party we have is showing some signs of being able to bite back! I thought the party - which by process of elimination is the only federal party I can vote for - was a little too stagnant and toothless, but this website shows they've got a nice left hook than can surprise in the late rounds. I figured something like this would come from some random third-party citizens' group, and I even thought the Grits might deliberately push it through a more subtle conduit to "mask" their involvement, but they're not afraid to come out swinging. And in good journalistic fashion, they even have links to every single quote in its original context!
As the election, and therefore electoral defeat, grows closer for Harper, he'll be appearing more and more in the public eye trying to backtrack over his ludicrous comments. Maybe he'll even accidentally say something honest in a while that can be added to the site!
Just a smattering of the pearls of wisdom Mr. Harper, a known racist and homophobe and "gun nut" and big business ally and financially suicidal tax cutter has treated us to:
"In Atlantic Canada...it's only through government favours that there's going to be economic progress"
"Canada appears content to become a second-tier socialistic country....to mask its second-rate status." [socialism - straight from the gates of hell, eh!]
i still think the conservatives are the better vote
in the reality where a finance minister can account for 100 million dollars missing...and martin gets in unscathed? no wonder us westerners are fed up with voting...you guys out east keep putting these crooks in power
At the very least the Liberal party can be said to be failing to follow through on its idealistic policies. At the very least, the Conservatives can be said to have flawed and ignorant policies from the outset! I would have voted for the Conservatives of Joe Clark if I had been old enough, but voting for the Reform/Alliance/masquerading as New Conservatives is more than I can take. They scare me. Here's hoping my vote will put one less Conservative in an Albertan seat!

Just a matter of opinion and perspective. You can take that last sentence and change Conservative for Liberal and it would fit just as well as it does that way.

Well, the liberals are pretty arrogant these days. I have trouble believing that PM Martin didnt know about the sponsorship scandal.
As Minister of Finance how could he not know. If you answer that he didnt, shouldn't he as minister of Finance and representing a riding in Quebec know?
Just seems if you let a party sit in power for to long they become disenchanted with the people.
I think a minority government for a short period would do canada some good.
As a guy who is working for the NDP let me just chime in and say:
Sponsorship scandal looks more like Chretien's goons more than Martin's people. G&M had a nice wrap up this week which made it all but "slap your head" clear. Charges laid pretty much lay the blame at Guite and Pelltier's feet. Paul's gunna pay for it, but to be fair, it's not his mess.
If you want a reason to dislike Paul, it's six months of promises and VERY high rhetoric, and absolutely ZERO action. He expected to be crowned king, ride ot an easy Spring majority, and then implement his policies after a summer off. Well, shit hit the fan, he was forced to wait on an election, and since then Paul's had no direction, no leadership, no ideas and no legislation. He's had ten years to prepare for the gig, and he's come up limp so far...
I've met Stephen Harper, I've interviewed Stephen Harper, his wife is very pleasant. He's not the extremist Paul makes him out to be, but he is a Bush style Republican, and that scares the hell out of me.

Here's hoping for a Liberal minority with the NDP holding the balance. Hey, the last time it happened, a guy named Pearson changed the nation... although Paul's no Pearson.
The Liberals may be arrogant and tired, but what a nightmare if the conservatives ever came into power. I'm in the Philippines right now (3rd world country), where you're a candidate for the death penalty if you're cought with a single joint. Believe me, it's a slippery slope.
Anyway I'm NDP.

Please we are seeing the nightmares of Liberals in power in Ontario...LIES LIES LIES AND MORE LIES. Its time for a change and the socialist party of Canada is not it, but a minority Government with the concervatives holding the balance of power would be my best case scenario....lets see some new policies and more transfer payments to the provinces....I might not like Harper but I dislike the Liberals and the Socialists, I mean NDP even more....
"We will increase funding to health and education, But i promise we won't raise taxes!!!" Dalton McGuinty.....Well we see how that worked out.....This alone turned me away from voting for the liberals in the Federal race, I can't believe I was actually considering it.
Actually the recent budget in Ontario has caused the Liberals (Federal) quite a slide in popularity and it has all gone to the NDP. Yet the NDP = Big Government Big Taxes, so no thanks. Next Year when I graduate and am working I feel like keeping more than 45% on my income....
As for McGuinty being a liar, he's more a bad politician than a liar.
The winds of change were blowing, all he had to do was lay back and let the conservatives self destruct. Yet, he promised the world when he didn't need to, and now he's paying for it.
I just got back from Rideau Hall, got to make the walk with Paul Martin. He seemed confident, and he'll likely be Prime Minister on June 29 (Hey, you know what that day is!) but I'll predict it'll be with a slim minority government.
Oh please. There are worse things than high taxes. And with Bush in the White House, the Liberals lean towards conservatism too much as it is. And I really don't mind being called a socialist.

As a student coming out of university with a small income, there is nothing worse that high taxes. I have to pay to get my eyes checked now....Hmm for what reason is that not Covered under OHIP. I guess checking for things like Glaucoma and whether or not a person needs corrective lenses is not important anymore.
What exactly do I get for my High taxes...free health care..please, I get to wait in line for everything. Let me tell you the last thing I would do is wait 6 months for an MRI I would pay my $1500 and go to Buffalo. I get hurt go to Emergency and wait 6 hours for a doctor to see me, that is worse than HMO's how? The governments can throw as much money as they want at it, funding is only half the problem, the system does not work how has it taken this long for them to figure out.
Let's not forget about the Government owned Petro Canada. That's a great concept lets start a gas company, use tax dollars to fund it and sell the public Canadian gas at the world price. Well that makes a lot of sence to me. For a country that gets taxed as heavily as we do, we sure don't have much to show for it.
On the upside tho, we have a health care system that is second rate at best, and education system where the Ontario PCs had to blow up and piss off all the teachers just to get the literacy rate up. Gas prices higher than the US, A post secondary system that is publicly funded yet for every funded student there is another student that is completely unfunded by the government and Maritime provinces that are going backrupt and getting no help from the Federal Government and billions of tax payers dollars in sponsorship money that has disappeared. Don't worry tho, it's OK our high taxes are making sure that thieves and criminals are driving their nice cars and living in their huge homes.
I shouldn't worry tho because I'm going to have to go into debt as soon as I'm done school to be able to live on my own.
Hmm you're right high taxes arn't the worst thing in the world, High taxes and an incompetant government is.
I still beleive that the NDP are a far worse evil than the Conservatives, thanks but I want to keep some of the money I earn working. I'm a student and I have already payed over $1500 in taxes in a 4 month work term. I feel like i have a baby I constantly need to feed with this government no matter how much we give them it really is more more more. Looks like CCR was right all those years ago.
