thats pretty much how i got started as well, it took alot of time and $$, thankfully columbia house and its 12 free cds deals helped alot, CH was one of the ways i really started to build my cd collection, it was cheaper than buying a bunch in the store, gee i havent used that service in 15 years now i bet..

i got my first job when i was 15 and most of my paychecks back then went to cds, my gst cheques almost always went to cds or beer.

my cd collection peaked a couple years ago at about 5-600, now its probably been trimmed to 4-450, lots of my music is stored on hard drives and the rest was sold, i grew out of some bands and genres over the years.

First cassette - Styx, Killroy Was Here
First CD - AC/DC ,Back In Black
I can't remember the first cassette tape that I bought. That was back when I was ordering tapes in those "order 7 for the price of 1" deals. It might have been Fully Completely but it also might have been En Vogue or the Spin Doctors. All I know is that I ordered a lot of stuff that I am not proud of.

I do remember the first cd that I bought. I still remember going in to the store and picking it up, and it was part of the top 10 or top 12 list of cd's to buy at the time. It was "The Colour (I'm Canadian) And The Shape" by the Foo Fighters. I think the second cd I bought was "Secret Samadhi" by Live. I still like both of those compact discs, even though it's been a while since I've listened to "Secret Samadhi".
tape: Phil Collins - No Jacket Required

cd: Blind Melon - s/t
The first CD I bought was Gordon by the Barenaked Ladies
First tape was Hysteria by Def Leppard
