Ah, yes, reasoned argument.

I can see why you like Cherry for PM.
George Alphabet did a very good job with his Douglas pitch. Made Tommy very accessible and relevant to the younger demo, and nicely highlighted his MANY accomplishments.

But, as I'm sure I'll say a lot over this process: It's gotta be Terry Fox.

Terry's not a political figure, and while you can't measure determination and courage on a balance sheet, he acheived, perservered and contributed to the greater good more than anybody else on that list.

Inspiration is immeasuarble.

His selflessness is unequaled.

And ah hell, nobody ever says it better than Gord: his gift really is forever green.
Thanks Skipper, I knew you would come around. In reality I think this should come down between Douglas (wicked name), Suzuki and Fox with Fox winning a squeaker. This list was meant to inspire debate and it has. Good on ya CBC.
I wouldn't even put Suzuki in the top 50.
It is really sad... I watched the show, and I found it was fairly informative... many great Canadian contributions I knew nothing about, others I had known and expected, but still, Avril Lavigne, Shania Twain, Jim Carrey and Don Cherry do not belong on that list... Why would media whores belong on a list of the greatest Canadians? Thats something that should be avoided... contribution to Canada is what counts, and none of the above, not to mention another half dozen or so, have done nothing for Canada... being successful and from Canada does not constitute 'greatness'... for the record I voted for Terry Fox... but Tommy Douglas and Trudeau were right behind... and it pains me to say it, but why even consider including Gretzky in the top 10... there is no logic behind that. I do understand it was based on voting... but there were 20 or so in the top 50 that should be disqualified...
Douglas Wrote:Sorry to disagree with the all knowing Skippy. For such a dumb list you sure get your undies in a bunch don't ya. As it stands, Cherry on the list and Atwood nowhere to be seen. Looks like Canadians spoke and you lost Stud. Deal with it. Don Cherry for P.M.

98% of Canadians know who Don Cherry is...
I thought I was the only one who knew who Margaret Atwood was...
I guess there's me... plus Skippy and Douglas... that makes 3?

And Avril!? Don't get me started on that frosted little cupcake.
No kidding. Avril is a joke. Did Ron Mclean get any mention? He's prett passionate about this country and seems to know his stuff.
The way I see it, it's a four-way toss-up between Trudeau, Fox, Bell and Douglas. I'd put Bell fourth, because you have to analyze what it is to be a Great Canadian, not just a great guy who happened to be Canadian. So between the other 3, there's not much to choose from...I'm going back and forth btwn. Douglas and Fox just because of the gifts they've left behind to this country. Because Fox's gift extends out of Canada and into various parts of this world, I give the vote to him, only because he's a domestic influence first, but also an international influence. So that's where I sit on this matter. For now. Don Cherry is the only name that should not be on the top 10. He has done very little w/ his power, up until the Rose Cherry House, which is admirable. But a hockey analyst who hawks cold medicine doesnt belong.
