Just the heading of this article made me want to punch my moniter. Who comes up with shit like this??? While the article isn't awful...and is at times complimentary...the heading...egads...

*shudder* :?

It almost seems like a comparison to Nickleback... and Avril...

I think that was a pretty good article, in favour of The Hip. But the heading, "Like Hockey? Nickelback? People That Say 'Aboot'? Tragically Hip May Rock You" is shite!
Clearly the writer didnt know crap about the band nor did she do any in depth research. One thing that pisses me off about the music industry is their crass attempts to jump on the bandwagon of something "hot" like Avril or Nickelback and lump all bands from the same locality or genre. :x
my lord

that is just ridiculus

Even as a newbie, I know that that article was not that great.
I must have read a different article, because the one this thread links to is really not that bad. Sure the tagline sucks, as I mentioned, but all-in-all the article is OK.
I agree Chris, at least there is some sort of promotion, right? :thumb:

its just the nickleback/avril part that makes me nervous :?

That's what I was getting at when I started the thread. Inheriently, there's nothing wrong with the article itself...infact, its rather complimentary...but lumping them in with "Canadian" bands/artists like Nickleback and Avril is just wrong, because they are nothing alike. I guess I'm also trying to say that its not only the Hip that MTV doesn't udnerstand, but anything outside of teeny-bopper top 40 crap. Anything that's original, they try to mold into something else to make it marketable. That's what bothers me the most.

I hear ya! :thumb:
MTV wouldnt know a good band if it jumped in its lap and started biting; They were good in the '80's but nowadays they are in lockstep with the music industry. They don't discover new bands, they market and hype what the record companies want them to sell. That's why any complementary reporting from them gets me nervous.
Isn't Much Music just as bad now? I remember in the day you could tune in a see The Hip like once an hour... and if they DIDN't (god forbid) play a vid, they'd be playing in the background. But nowadays the only thing they air is ©rap or britney.
For anything decent, you need muchMOREmusic, which the general not digital cable having public doesn't get. so BOO much music too!
Well, it is just that now, MuchMusic is able to fulfill Canadian Content regulations with music that fits the "younger target market"... there are so many "new" Canadian artists that I think that MM feels that they don't need the hip.

And MuchMoreMusic was created to serve a 'different market'

i dunno... maybe there is more CanCon so they don't want to play the Hip who may not be as popular as (haha) Avril or someone

All about the $$$$ $$$$
But I mean if MUCH doesn't think they're pulling the same kind of fan base that Avril does, they need not look further than the screaming, rabid fans that filled the building (and the street) for the M@W i&i! Seriously? There were TONS of people there. Or maybe there weren't that many and everyone was just LOUD Smile
