Bob Cole's the worst, IMHO. He seems totally oblivious.
- Says Joseph when Legace is in nets
- Says Belfour when he means Weekes at the other end
- Constantly says "And the Leafs will go to the power play" when he means they'll go on the penalty kill, or vice versa
- Has not called a penalty correctly in the past 10 years
wow, let's ease up on the bob cole bashing neil, although i will admit he's not as sharp as he once was and there seems to be early signs of alsheimers, he still has one of the best voices for hockey. He's a legend to the game of hockey as a broadcaster. Not sure who else compares with him, the only other broadcaster that is top notch for me is Jim Houston.

HA HA HA HA!! :lol: That's freakin' hilarious! I missed that, but I must admit I don't like him overall. I hate the way he yells every word of his "monster performer" segment after two periods.
You know, I have to say the single worst thing about hockey broadcasts are those American announcers (and it's always Americans, sorry) who scream "...AND HE SCOOOOOOOOORES!!!!!!" during regular season play. They yell so loud and so long, you would think it was Henderson's goal in 1972 or Hull's triple-overtime Cup winner for Dallas. Get a life!
I have seen highlights on Sportsnet where the anchor was yelling so loud you can't hear the Sportsnet guy giving the summaries.
OK, Darnell I WILL admit Cole has one of the best voices in all of public broadcasting. He deserves credit for that. But he's more out of it than Ronald Reagan. He doesn't really "irritate" me while I'm listening to him, but I just can't believe he still has a job for all the mistakes he makes. But yeah you're right, he is still a giant of broadcasting.

Very true, but nothing is as annoying as an american FOX Sports announcer exclaiming GOOOOOALLLL!!! a la any brazillian soccer play by play man as the puck slides in.

OOH! I forgot one! I don't know which US network it is, and this doesn't refer to any specific commentator, but here is the #1 that most supremely irks me about watching hockey on US TV:
There is a network actually (I'm not kidding) puts up notices beside the time clock EVERY 10 SECONDS when a player steps onto the ice. I was watching Tampa Bay play, and EVERY TIME Lacavalier, St Louis, Richards or Andreychuk came on the ice, it would say "NOW ON ICE: #4 Lecavalier". And when I was watching Dallas, this note would come on every time Arnott, Guerin, Lehtinen or Modano came on it would do the same thing! WHO NEEDS THAT?! It was annoying and distracting!
Items #2 that does not point to a specific person - in some Stateside games, the referee comes up to a mic over the timeclock-guy's box and yells "WHOEVER - 2 MINUTES FOR HIGH STICKING!" so the crowd can hear him. Very annoying.
