Before we move on to the gold medallists, there are a few other categories I'd like to visit. First up, the lead single for each album (and the EP).
Vote for the song you believe is weakest from the lead singles and after 24 hours, we'll eliminate the song with the most votes and move on to round 2. In the event of a tie, both songs will be eliminated.

I became a die-hard fan after Fully Completely's release -- so I remember every subsequent first-single Hip release vividly in my mind. For most, I can even recall where I was when I first heard it. Of all those releases, Love in a First is the one that had the least impact. It gets my first vote.

Yup, me too. That song does absolutely nothing for me.
Smalltown Bringdown will obviously lose this round. But I have a soft spot for that song, as it's the first Hip video I ever saw on Muchmusic. I didn't become a full fledged Hip fan until Up to Here, but I distinctly remember seeing the STB video and thinking "these guys are pretty cool." I'm trying to remember when that was. Late '88 or early '89 maybe?

Smalltown is possibly the weakest track, though it has its merits and it maybe more hindered by production than anything else -- I agree with the above, Love is a First, the lead single of my least favorite album. It registered so little for me, that only when we did the recollections thread did I realize it was the lead single. Morning Moon was the first track I heard, but did not realize it was not released to radio.

Voted Bringdown, almost before I saw Love is a First; but Love has some cool things going on in it, mostly Robbie's guitar work, which is pretty out of the ordinary for him, so I give the band props for veering off in a bit of a different direction. That being said, it will be my vote for round two!
I couldn't vote for Smalltown. The production is not top notch, as previously mentioned, but I don't feel this mars the song. In fact it gives it some unsophisticated charm. I find the song to have a great youthful energy to it. It's the one song that would have blown my mind if it had gotten pulled out on the MMP tour. I know they wouldn't have wanted to do a mini-set of four from the EP but, man, had this made an appearance in an encore somewhere the arena would have exploded. All that being said, it is clearly going out this round, and I would have likely voted for it in the next round.
Wow, I found a poll where I don't have to vote for the EP track ... In View is probably the Hip song I *hate* (a very strong word; relentlessly apt) the most. It may, in fact, be the only Hip song I hate.

the love is a first ramblings from TNIT are probably my favorite moment on that dvd. when the song finally came to fruition, i was disappointed. i think i built it up too much in my head.
in view i love. funny how some people cant digest it. i love the dance-y rhythm. the toy piano. the rush of it all. the guitar line. the video.
my issue with it, was how overly compressed it always sounded to my ears. i blame technology and bob rock.
i voted smalltown. i still like love is a first more. ..... somehow
